Summer Job as a GIS Specialist Job Responsibilities

The work consists of developing a GIS tool for identifying road sections suitable for conversion into so-called rural roads in the northern region of the Swedish Transport Administration. The method should be based on a GIS-based multi-criteria analysis where different attributes are weighted according to what is most relevant for a rural road to be a suitable reconstruction measure.

The end result should be a GIS platform where suitable rural road sections are displayed on a zoomable map in a color scale from "suitable" to "very suitable". A summary of the number of kilometers of road suitable for rural roads should be made for each county and municipality.

It is part of the task to gather feedback from end users within the northern region of the Swedish Transport Administration and to hold presentations and shorter training sessions in the tool for end users.

Time period for the summer job: 2026-07-01 to 2026-09-30

Location for the summer job is Härnösand or Gävle.

Who are you?

As a person, you are solution-oriented and have the ability to understand various tasks and solve the situations that arise. You have good collaboration skills, are engaged, and perform your tasks reliably. You are motivated by active participation where you responsibly take charge of your tasks while being attentive to how you are part of and contribute to the whole by collaborating with others.

We are looking for someone who has

• a current university education in GIS or urban planning where you have studied GIS analysis with multi-criteria analysis for at least 5 semesters, or you have completed such education in 2024 or later
• relevant experience in independently applying GIS-based multi-criteria analysis from a thesis or larger project
• good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form
• a driver's license for passenger cars
