Vaggeryd Municipality is now looking for you who have time, commitment, and a big heart for children with special needs. Right now, we need more contact families who want to support children and their parents by being there during their leisure time – for example, one weekend a month or on weekdays after preschool.

As a contact family, you welcome a child into your home during agreed times. For the child, this can mean a safe adult contact, new experiences, and a calm environment. For the parents, it can mean relief and an opportunity to recharge. The initiative is voluntary and is adapted to both the child's needs and your life situation.

A contact family can look different. You can live in the countryside or in the city, in an apartment or a house, be single, married, or cohabiting, with or without children. What matters most is that the contact family's conditions and circumstances match the child's needs.

It is important to know that the role of a contact family is a volunteer assignment, not an employment. You are not employed by the municipality, but undertake an assignment from the social services where your everyday skills, commitment, and stability are what matter most.

Before you can become a contact family, we always conduct a thorough investigation that includes home visits, background checks, and reference checks. During the investigation period, an assessment is made regarding whether you can be approved as a contact family and what type of assignment would suit you. We do this to ensure that it is safe and good for everyone involved – both for the child and for you as a contact family. It is also important that you have good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form.

As a contact family, you will receive compensation and reimbursement according to SKR's recommendations. This is not a salary, but compensation for the assignment you perform and the costs that arise in the assignment.

You do not need any special education or experience, but you need to have a stable life situation, time available, and a genuine desire to make a difference for a child. The social services will be there to support you throughout the process.
