We are looking for someone with experience in operational security, security planning, and security protection in challenging environments. Are you interested in working at the Swedish Embassy in Kyiv with the embassy's security work in Ukraine?
Your workday. Sweden's tomorrow.
The Swedish Embassy in Kyiv consists of posted and locally employed staff working with Sweden's extensive support to Ukraine. The operations are greatly affected by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, read more at Ukraine - Sweden Abroad.
Security work is a crucial part of the embassy's operations and is organizationally part of operational support. The security section's work is done in close collaboration with the head of the authority (the ambassador) and the embassy's security chief (the head of the chancery).
As a posted security advisor, you will help lead the embassy's security section, which currently consists of a field security team with an administrator, a team leader, and several field security operators and locally employed drivers. The embassy currently has two rotating security advisors, which will be expanded to three people.
The main task is to enable the embassy's operations through analysis, planning, and advice in preparation for incoming visits from Sweden and for the preparation of field trips in the country. In addition, the security advisor's role is to facilitate the embassy's regular work by assessing the threat level in connection with air alarms. You should be prepared to regularly work during uncomfortable hours, including nights and weekends. The work requires a broad network of contacts and close cooperation with both Swedish and Ukrainian authorities as well as with international partners to gather and analyze information, conduct security risk analyses, and propose risk-reducing measures for the embassy's operations. You will also work in close dialogue with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' security unit in Stockholm.
Your background
We are looking for someone with relevant academic or equivalent police/military training and several years of experience in operational security work, primarily within the public sector. You have previous experience in security planning and personal security of various kinds, as well as implementing risk-reducing measures in transportation, physical security, security reconnaissance, and security collaboration. We also welcome candidates with experience in security work within the EU, UN, or any other international organization. Experience working in the region is an asset.
Your qualities
As a security advisor at a foreign mission, you are required to have integrity and good judgment, be stable, independent as well as responsive and flexible with a focus on the needs of the operation. You follow the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' ethical guidelines and are a good representative for Sweden.
The position requires a good ability to express oneself in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
You must have a Swedish B driver's license at the time of application; having a C driver's license is an advantage.
You must be a Swedish citizen and registered in Sweden.
Other
Start date in May 2026 or by agreement. The announcement refers to a fixed-term employment of one year with the possibility of extension. The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
