We are looking for someone with experience in operational security, security planning, and protective security in challenging environments. Sweden's embassy in Kyiv consists of posted and locally employed staff working with Sweden's extensive support to Ukraine. The operations are greatly affected by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, read more at Ukraine - Sweden Abroad.

Security work is crucial for the embassy's operations and is organizationally part of operational support. The security section's work is carried out in close cooperation with the head of the authority (the ambassador) and the embassy's security manager (the head of the chancery).

As a posted security advisor, you will lead the embassy's security section, which currently consists of a field security team with an administrator, a team leader, and several field security operators and locally employed drivers. The embassy will, starting in the spring of 2026, have three rotating security advisors. The recruitment concerns the position as the main responsible for the security section.

The main task is to enable the embassy's operations by being responsible for analysis, planning, and advice regarding the reception of incoming visits from Sweden as well as the preparation of field trips in the country. In addition, the security advisor's role is to enable the embassy's regular work by assessing threat levels in connection with flight alarms. You should be prepared to serve regularly during uncomfortable working hours, including nights and weekends. The work requires a broad network of contacts and close cooperation with both Swedish and Ukrainian authorities as well as with international partners in order to, among other things, gather and analyze information, conduct security risk analyses, and propose risk-reducing measures for the embassy's operations. You will also have primary responsibility for policy development in close dialogue with the security unit of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.

Your background

We are looking for someone with a relevant academic degree and several years of experience in both analytical and operational security work, primarily within the public sector. You have documented experience in leadership within security planning and personal security of various kinds, as well as the implementation of risk-reducing measures in transportation, physical security, security reconnaissance, and security collaboration. We would also like you to have experience in security work at a Swedish embassy or within the EU, UN, or another international organization. Experience working in Ukraine and the region is an asset.

Your qualities

You have integrity and good judgment, are stable, independent, as well as responsive and flexible with a focus on the needs of the organization. You follow the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' ethical guidelines and are a good representative of Sweden.

The service requires a good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English. If you have experience in communication and pedagogy in educational contexts, it is an advantage, as training staff and sharing information is an important part of the assignment.

You must have a Swedish B driver's license at the time of application; if you also have a C driver's license, it is an asset. You must be a Swedish citizen and registered in Sweden.

The announcement concerns a permanent position in the Government Offices/Ministry for Foreign Affairs, initially located at the embassy in Kyiv, starting with a probationary period. Start as soon as possible or by agreement. The employment includes alternating service as a security advisor at a foreign mission (initially at the embassy in Kyiv) and at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, preferably at the security unit.

The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. Note that the service location is classified as hardship class five and that a health certificate indicating fitness for the current stationing location is required. The current direction for service in Kyiv is that family members, both adults and children, are not allowed to accompany the stationing location. Some training needs to be conducted in Stockholm before starting.
