We want to create conditions for more internationally educated employees to obtain Swedish licenses and specialist certificates.
If you have an education in a licensed profession within healthcare from a country outside the EU/EEA, there are different paths to Swedish licensing. Either through supplementary education at a Swedish university or via knowledge tests and practical training. We do our best to help you as an internationally educated professional find a place for practical training within Region Uppsala. An expression of interest does not guarantee a placement, but is a way to show your interest. Your application will be saved until the last application date and shared with Region Uppsala's International Office and interested managers in our various operations. We prioritize individuals residing in Region Uppsala, but you who live in another region are also welcome to submit an expression of interest.
What does practical training mean?
Practical training is a requirement for obtaining Swedish licensing in certain professions, such as doctors, nurses, and dentists. During the training, you work under supervision to demonstrate your competence in a Swedish clinical environment. Once the training is approved, and you have completed all other parts of the Socialstyrelsen's path to Swedish licensing, you can apply for a license from Socialstyrelsen. The practical training lasts for 3–6 months, depending on the profession. During this period, you are employed in the organization where you are doing your training and you receive a salary. There is no guaranteed continued employment afterward. After completing the training, you must wait for Socialstyrelsen's decision before you can work independently in a licensed profession.
To submit an expression of interest for practical training, the following is required:
- Approved proof of the theoretical and practical parts of the knowledge test.
- Decision from Socialstyrelsen that the next step is practical training.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language and a formal language certificate (C1, SVA3, or TISUS).
- Attach your educational certificates, CV, and cover letter and answer our supplementary questions.
- We also recommend that you have completed a course in legal knowledge before starting.
Information about your expression of interest
- We have two application periods per year: February-May and September-November.
- The advertisement is open for three to four months. After the application period has ended, the selection process concludes and applications are deleted according to applicable procedures. If you wish to continue showing interest, you are welcome to submit a new application when the next advertisement opens.
- If you receive a placement, you notify [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) that your application should be removed.
- You need to monitor other advertisements with offers for practical training within Region Uppsala and apply for these separately.
Welcome with your expression of interest!
You can express your interest by registering your application via this advertisement. However, you can also directly contact our hospitals, health centers, and dental clinics, as it is the individual organization that decides whether they can offer practical training.
