About the position

Karolinska University Hospital is one of Europe's largest university hospitals. In close collaboration with Karolinska Institute, we lead medical development in Sweden and work towards the integration of care, research, and education – always with the patient's best interests in focus, for both today's and tomorrow's patients.

Access to health data is a fundamental prerequisite for research and development of future healthcare and a stated goal in Karolinska University Hospital's strategy for research, education, and development.

Karolinska Health Data drives strategic issues regarding the accessibility of health data in close collaboration with both the region and academia. The operation also offers practical and legal advice to researchers, department heads, national quality registers, and other support functions within Karolinska University Hospital, as well as handling applications and coordinating the release of health data to both internal and external researchers.

The primary role of the Data Handler is to process incoming cases and provide qualified support and advice to both internal and external researchers, other support functions, and healthcare operations within Karolinska University Hospital.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Being a contact point for researchers applying for data for research
  • Providing qualified advice and support to researchers in the data release process
  • Processing and preparing requests for health data extraction for research, education, and development
  • Coordinating cases with other internal support functions within the hospital
  • Assisting in the design, development, and quality assurance of work methods and routines for data extraction for research, education, and development.

The position is located at the FoUU office, and you report to the office manager at the FoUU Department.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Relevant education and/or experience for the assignment
  • Experience in qualified administration, case handling/preparation, or similar
  • Documented experience or knowledge of relevant legislation, such as concerning public access and secrecy, data protection, and ethical review
  • Express yourself fluently in both spoken and written Swedish and English

Meritorious:

  • Experience working in the public sector, large organizations, or other complex environments
  • Experience working as a qualified legal assistant, case handler, or equivalent
  • Experience in healthcare administration or medical information management
  • Experience from work with health data, clinical research in healthcare or academia
  • Knowledge in informatics and healthcare information systems.
