About us
Region Sörmland includes four hospitals and 18 region-operated health centers and 12 private health centers, distributed across the nine municipalities of the county. We have approximately 7500 employees, of which about 6400 are employed in healthcare.
AT training is conducted at Kullbergska Hospital in Katrineholm, Mälarsjukhuset in Eskilstuna, and Nyköping Hospital. In Region Sörmland, the AT doctor is an important link in our operations, and we therefore place great importance on personal suitability during recruitment. Our goal is that after your AT in Sörmland, you will have received solid clinical and theoretical training and be well-prepared for your future career. We maintain a continuous dialogue with our AT doctors regarding the design of the training. As an AT doctor, you will have an AT manager throughout your service period and the opportunity to engage in local AT councils.
We have a 21-month AT because we believe that with longer and continuous placements within inpatient care clinics, you will learn more, become an independent and confident licensed doctor, and we can also offer you the opportunity for observation weeks at smaller clinics and wish weeks.
The AT service includes 21 months, distributed as follows:
- Six months of medicine.
- Six months of surgery.
- Three months of psychiatry.
- Six months of primary care.

The surgery and orthopedic placement as well as psychiatric inpatient care for AT doctors from Kullbergska Hospital takes place at Nyköping Hospital. Your qualifications
Formal requirements
We are looking for someone who at the beginning of employment has a medical degree and, where applicable, a written decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare and a course in community and constitutional law. You have a very good language level, at least C1 (requirement for licensing according to the National Board of Health and Welfare).
Knowledge
You are expected to apply your practical and theoretical knowledge from medical education under supervision in clinical practice.

We make an overall assessment of your ability to work as an AT doctor and to be an engaged colleague in our operations. In this assessment, we place great importance on:

Introduction week
The introduction week includes information about the hospital and Region Sörmland, as well as reviews of important medical and administrative routines, training in the data system (Cosmic). The new AT doctors also have the opportunity to meet other AT doctors, union representatives, study directors, AT managers, and management. The introduction week takes place the week before the start of the 21 months of clinical training. At the beginning of each placement, one undergoes a well-planned and structured introduction, which includes both theoretical lectures and practical exercises.
Supervision
At each placement, there is a personal supervisor responsible for the AT doctor's training. The study directors and AT manager are also available for conversations, advice, and support as needed. The AT manager is the main supervisor.
Training
One afternoon a week is set aside for education, supervision, seminar activities, or individual studies. Additionally:
- Training in insurance medicine
- Acute medical management
- Participation in the AT meeting
- Central Swedish Pharmaceutical Forum
- AT day.
Employment form
The AT service is 21 months with good opportunities to continue as a specialist doctor in many specialties. Start date at the end of May/June 2026 and August/September 2026.
