About the job

The mission of the Crime Prevention Department is to prevent, counteract, and investigate economic crime, serious tax evasion, both nationally and internationally, and population registration offenses. The assignment also includes criminal investigations and intelligence activities. The work is conducted based on the Swedish Tax Agency's mandate in the area, including inter-agency cooperation at national and regional levels. The Crime Investigation Unit collaborates internationally, including within Europol.

You will undergo training to perform the assignment safely and effectively. It is important that you have a high level of security and confidentiality awareness. Some adaptation of the training will occur based on previous experience and competence. Travel in the service occurs primarily within Sweden, but international travel may also be required. You will have flexible working hours, and it is a given for us that you should have a balance between work and leisure.

You will belong to a section in the Crime Investigation Unit within the Crime Prevention Department, located in Uppsala. In a section, we are about 20 colleagues. Approximately 170 people work in the Crime Investigation Unit at locations throughout Sweden.

As a crime investigator, you will work with:

  • conducting and implementing preliminary investigations on behalf of prosecutors regarding economic crime - primarily tax offenses, accounting offenses, and money laundering
  • closely collaborating with prosecutors throughout the investigation process and continuously presenting the status of the investigation
  • gathering, structuring, visualizing, and analyzing extensive investigation materials
  • conducting asset investigations prior to the recovery of criminal proceeds
  • planning and executing raids with searches and handling seizures such as accounting records, phones, computers, or valuable assets
  • interviewing suspects, witnesses, and other relevant individuals, sometimes in situations where the individual is detained or arrested
  • handling and analyzing digital evidence with the support of various IT systems
  • working on complex and challenging investigations that place high demands on your analytical skills and ability to see connections
  • sharing information with other agencies, authorities, and community actors to combat organized crime and the criminal economy, both in Sweden and abroad.

You should also have:

  • a completed university education of at least 180 higher education credits (120) in law or economics, or equivalent knowledge and experience acquired in another way that is relevant to the position
  • several years of current and relevant work experience in criminal investigations, in-depth economic investigations, or audits in government agencies, auditing firms, law firms, or similar operations
  • good competence in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT environments for the work area
  • a valid driver's license (B).

It is desirable that you have:

  • knowledge of accounting
  • experience working with economic investigations
  • experience in criminal investigations and conducting interviews at another investigative authority
  • high IT maturity and experience with various IT environments (e.g., cryptocurrencies)
  • experience in conducting financial analyses (e.g., account analyses, asset investigations).

Good to know

The employment is permanent and may start with a six-month probationary period.

Employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.
