Job Advertisement: Developer in Radio Communication Disruption
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defence and security to support Sweden's military and civil defence. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capability.
Do you want to help develop the next generation of systems for disrupting enemy radio communications? Do you want to work with advanced applied research and development? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
You will work at the forefront of technology, designing and implementing complex systems to realize our research results. Your contributions will mainly be in VHDL and C running on FPGA and ARM circuits, focusing on implementing experimental algorithms and analysis functions in our experimental and demonstrator systems. The prototypes have the potential to become future defence systems. This means that we are not only building the latest technology but also paving the way for future innovations.
As our unit covers a wide range of technologies, there are great opportunities for varied tasks, including close contact with interested recipients within the Armed Forces. You will follow the work from the idea stage to the finished system while having the opportunity to develop within your area of expertise.
We work in project form where your contribution becomes a significant part of the whole, and there is a real opportunity to influence the results. Since we test our systems in realistic environments with field measurements, there is also the possibility to work outside the everyday office and lab environment.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Radio Communication Disruption unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. Together with colleagues in the Radio operational area, we work with the Armed Forces' needs regarding electronic warfare and robustness aspects for applications within the radio domain.
The unit's mission aims to develop disruption methods to degrade an opponent's command capability. We work with the entire chain from advanced algorithms to hardware prototypes, which are often tested in real environments. We are close to our clients but also have good contacts in the academic world and the defence industry.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A Master's degree in engineering with a focus on firmware development, system-on-chip, or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form.
As an employee at FOI, you will have a job with great freedom, the opportunity to influence, and room for your own initiatives. It is valuable to be proactive, have good analytical skills, and be self-driven. Since the work is project-based, you need to have good collaboration skills, enjoy developing solutions together with others, and be goal- and result-oriented.
Meritorious
It is an advantage if you have:
- Competence in signal processing, radio communication, or electronics.
- Previous work experience in firmware or software development.
- Experience from the Armed Forces, defence industry, or other defence-related authorities.
