High School Teachers Wanted at Svenska Skolan i Nairobi

Svenska Skolan i Nairobi is looking for high school teachers
What does a workday look like – if it happens to be in Nairobi?
As a teacher at SSN, you are a central part of the students' everyday life – not just during school hours, but also during leisure time and in the boarding school. You contribute to a safe and structured environment where students are seen, can grow, and dare to take space – in the classroom and in life around the school.
As a teacher, you primarily teach at the high school level according to Swedish governing documents, in Swedish, in small teaching groups where student-centered work, clear structures, and relationships are in focus. The students encounter familiar demands and working methods from the Swedish school, while everyday life unfolds in one of Africa's most dynamic cities. The school day encompasses perspectives and experiences that cannot be learned from books, and the teaching is shaped by both the Swedish school tradition and the place we are in – through conversations, examples, excursions, and meetings.
The everyday life at the school is a combination of the familiar and the unexpected. In your role, you use your skills, commitment, and experience to create safety, structure, and meaningful contexts for students who live and study far from home – in the classroom and in life around the school.
……
Svenska Skolan i Nairobi (SSN) is a Swedish international school for children from preschool to high school. The school has been run by a parent association since 1968, is non-profit, and has about 170 students. Teaching is conducted in Swedish according to Swedish governing documents, but everyday life is shaped by the place we are in – in teaching, relationships, and life around the school.
At the high school level, we offer three college preparatory programs – economics, natural sciences, and social sciences – as well as a guest student program where about 95 Swedish students can combine their high school studies with living in the boarding school or with host families. More information about the school can be found at www.ssn.or.ke.
