Researcher in Economics at Uppsala University

Uppsala University (https://www.uu.se/institution/nationalekonomiska/) is one of the largest institutions within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries. Annually, around 1,000 students participate in one of our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research focus is on labor market economics, macroeconomics, and public economics. Researchers at the department are often engaged as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and collaborate in many ways with the surrounding community.

Job Responsibilities

The tasks consist of research, both independently and collaboratively with participants, within the framework of the ongoing research project “Macroeconomics and High-Dimensional Heterogeneity at the Micro Level” funded by the Riksbank Jubilee Fund, see information here (https://www.rj.se/bidrag/2023/makroekonomin-och-hogdimensionell-heterogenitet-pa-mikronivan/). Furthermore, teaching corresponding to a maximum of 20% of the position is included.

Qualifications

A PhD in economics or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in economics. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to those who have completed their degree within the last three years. In calculating the three-year time frame, the last application date is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, union duties, etc.

Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required.

Desirable/Meritorious

Competence and experience related to the issues within the project are meritorious, particularly regarding macroeconomic models with heterogeneous agents, machine learning algorithms, especially concerning causal inference, applied microeconomics, and microsimulation models.

The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater emphasis is placed on the quality of each individual scientific work than on the quantity of publications.

About the Position

The position is temporary for two years with the possibility of extension for one year. The scope is full-time. Start date is September 1, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
