Personal Ombudsman at Lerum Municipality

Lerum Municipality is known for its scenic locations with lakes and forests. The municipality has 3,200 employees and 43,000 residents but expects to grow significantly in the coming years. Lerum is only a 20-minute commute from Gothenburg and is currently facing a development-intensive period with many exciting projects underway, ranging from schools to housing. The municipality works to ensure both good service, high welfare, and a thriving business climate.

Dagens Samhälle has recently awarded Lerum as the winner in the category of metropolitan municipalities (2025) - an award based on a comprehensive comparison of 290 Swedish municipalities in areas such as education, healthcare, economy, culture and leisure, attractiveness, business, and future factors such as digitalization and civil preparedness. We are now a Super Municipality!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a personal ombudsman with us, you play an important societal function for a vulnerable target group. In addition to internal collaboration within the workgroup/administration, the job responsibilities include:

  • On behalf of and in consultation with the client, identify the need for care and support to establish a plan moving forward.
  • Together with the client, ensure that various authorities' interventions are planned, coordinated, and implemented.
  • Assist the client in contacts with various authorities and other actors.
  • Ensure that the client's legal rights are met regarding care, support, and services based on the client's own wishes.
  • Work for a better quality of life for individuals with mental disabilities through targeted information to the target group and society.
  • Work with a colleague to highlight deficiencies in the welfare system that negatively affect the target group and articulate these both verbally and in writing.
  • Participate in both external and internal collaboration.
  • Represent the organization outward in various contexts.

The work is primarily scheduled during daytime hours, Monday to Friday. You work very independently and meet your clients both at the office, out with authorities, and, circumstances permitting, also in the client's home.

QUALIFICATIONS

You have several years of work experience meeting and working with individuals in vulnerable situations. Experience working with individuals with mental disabilities is particularly meritorious. Your educational background is an academic degree, at least 3 years, preferably directed towards work as a social worker, social pedagogue, or behavioral scientist. You have a good understanding of various authorities' missions and services and master the Swedish language well in both speech and writing. The ability to both understand and apply legislation/regulations related to individual rights combined with professional experience within a public organization is meritorious for the position.

Your approach is very important as you meet vulnerable people in difficult life situations, who often need extensive support measures. As a person, you require an empathetic ability, but also integrity, flexibility, perseverance, and very good collaboration skills, which are characteristic traits for achieving success in the work. Your working method is representative, trust-building, and has a clear solution-focused profile. The organization is responsible for its own ongoing statistics, which requires both accuracy and discipline in registration. A driver's license (B) is a requirement.
