The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Building New, Renovating, and Expanding, and Now Seeking More Employees
Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising detained individuals. These are clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between remand facilities and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports detained individuals for agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry.
In 2026, TA will conduct around 130,000 transports, which is expected to increase by approximately 10% in the coming years, including both domestic and international transports. TA is in an exciting phase of expansion and development, particularly regarding work methods, transport planning systems, development of internal and external collaboration, processes, and organization. The Unit for Operational Support primarily supports the department head but also other units within the department. Support is provided in the form of analyses, strategies, and plans for the department head's entire planning horizon, case preparation, maintenance of collaboration points, as well as monitoring and development of the transport operations. The unit is also responsible for department-wide administration and coordination within various operational areas and the entire fleet of vehicles for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Your focus will be on developing the processes surrounding the department's 130,000+ transports and, together with other experts in the section, developing the operations to enhance quality and efficiency while creating conditions for the significant growth planned over the next 5-10 years. The processes include everything from collaboration with clients, the execution of transports, contractual matters, optimization of schedules, and optimization of the use of vehicles and premises. As an expert, you will also represent TA in various working groups both within the authority and with other authorities. Furthermore, you will drive strategic improvement projects to optimize processes and flows together with other units within TA. You will also be the expert who supports the operations in matters related to transport processes alongside other experts in the section.
The work is done in collaboration with other experts both within TA and other departments at the headquarters. Collaboration is a significant part of daily work, but there are also expectations that you can work independently. We transport detained individuals, and our focus is on providing a good experience for those we transport while ensuring safe and efficient movements of detainees that society can rely on.
