The Department of Health and Care Sciences conducts education and research focused on care, health, and people's living conditions. The research at the department spans many areas but has a common starting point in person-centered care. We are nationally and internationally leading in person-centered care, and this perspective permeates both education, research, and collaboration with healthcare. We educate nurses, radiographers, specialist nurses, and midwives with the goal of meeting society's need for competent and committed healthcare personnel.
The department is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and operates at the Medicinareberget Campus, in close proximity to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. An environment characterized by interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical relevance, and high academic quality. Our department has approximately 1,200 students training in licensed professions in healthcare, both at undergraduate and advanced levels.

Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include conducting high-quality research in the field of nursing science in line with the department's areas of strength. Furthermore, it includes actively seeking external research funding and providing support for junior researchers in the field. The position also includes research communication, which entails disseminating, making accessible, and utilizing research.
The job responsibilities also include teaching in the subject area at all levels; undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels where the applicant's professional experience should be applied in relevant teaching situations. The role includes supervision of theses and doctoral students.
The applicant must teach in Swedish/Scandinavian language and English.
The holder of the position who lacks higher education pedagogical training must undergo such training within one year from the start of the employment.
For promotion, it is required that the applicant has acquired the ability to master Swedish in writing and speech at least at level B2 according to the CEFR no later than six months before the assistant professorship expires. The University of Gothenburg will offer Swedish courses that are mandatory within the framework of the employment.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as an assistant professor is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Eligible for employment as an assistant professor is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in nursing science, medical science, or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, the one who has obtained a doctoral degree or has achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application period for the position of assistant professor has expired should be considered. However, those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Reasons, dates, and extent of absence must be clearly specified in the application and substantiated with certificates.
Swedish/Nordic license within health professions; nurse, radiographer, or midwife is required.
Proficiency in Swedish/another Scandinavian language and English in both spoken and written form is required.
Employment
Fixed-term employment for 5 years, full-time (100%). Placement at the Department of Health and Care Sciences. Start date according to agreement.
An employment as an assistant professor is fixed-term and defined as a merit-based position. The purpose of the employment is to give the applicant the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility as a university lecturer. The employment may be renewed, but for a maximum of two additional years if due to illness, parental leave, or other special reasons additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the employment. The requirements for promotion to university lecturer are based on the assessment criteria established by the faculty board of the Sahlgrenska Academy.
