Are you technically curious and enjoy solving problems where others have hit a wall? Do you want to work practically with some of the most advanced instruments in electron microscopy and materials analysis in the Nordics? Then the role of service engineer at Spectral may be just right for you.
About Spectral
At Spectral, we believe that real development occurs when technical curiosity is given room to grow. With roots in the 70s, we have evolved into a leading partner in electron microscopy and surface analysis — and we continue to drive development forward for companies, researchers, and engineers across the Nordics.
We are still a family business, but with a modern structure, short decision-making paths, and a culture where you get close to both the technology and the people behind it. With us, it doesn’t matter if you visit a battery factory, a medical technology lab, or a research group — you are often the one who enables them to see and understand their material on a whole new level.
About the Service Engineer Position
As a service engineer at Spectral, you will work with advanced instrumentation that few technicians encounter in their daily lives. You will learn to optimize and maintain electron microscopes, fine-tune high-sensitivity analytical tools, and ensure that the systems perform at the nanometer level. The role combines practical problem-solving, technical skill, and the freedom to plan your own work — while continuously developing through close contact with both colleagues and international suppliers.
We are looking for someone who not only wants a job but a place where you can deepen your technical skills, become truly proficient in a unique field, and contribute to something that actually matters. At Spectral, you will be part of a team where curiosity is seen as a strength and where you make a difference every day for our customers' research, development, and production.
Your main tasks will include:
- Performing service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
- Planning and conducting customer visits, both scheduled and urgent matters.
- Installing new instruments and training customers in their use.
- Documenting and following up on service assignments in the system.
- Collaborating with colleagues and suppliers for problem-solving and support.
- Contributing to the improvement of service processes and customer materials.
- Traveling within the Nordics as needed (approximately 100 nights/year).
About You
We are looking for someone with good experience in troubleshooting, service, and maintenance, as well as the ability to read circuit and flow diagrams. You have a good technical understanding of electronics and at least post-secondary education in electrical engineering, mechanics, or automation, or relevant work experience that can be deemed equivalent.
Furthermore, we seek someone who has a genuine technical interest and who shows great commitment to their work through their curiosity. You are motivated by working in different environments and gain energy from meeting customers. To succeed in the role, you need to be humble in the face of challenges and have a solution-oriented and structured approach, as the role involves freedom with responsibility. You should appreciate variation in your workday as no day is the same and be willing to deliver a positive and educational customer experience of high quality.
Important for the position is:
- Good experience in troubleshooting, service, and maintenance.
- Experience in reading circuit and flow diagrams.
- Good technical understanding of electronics.
- At least post-secondary education in electrical engineering, mechanics, automation, or relevant work experience that can be deemed equivalent.
- Possess a valid driver's license and be flexible for travel and overnight stays in the job.
- Fluent language skills in a Nordic language and good knowledge of English.
Meritorious:
- University education in electronics, physics, chemistry, or similar.
- Experience with electron microscopy or other advanced laboratory or analytical equipment.
- Experience working in varying environments such as technical industries and academia.
- Previous experience as a traveling service technician/service engineer.
- Good technical understanding of mechanics and/or software.
Spectral's Offer
You will be part of a stable and well-established company with long experience in technical service and support. Here, technical responsibility is combined with the opportunity to influence work processes and develop your own solutions for customers. As an employee, you will be offered wellness benefits, occupational pension, health insurance, and access to a company car.
