We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher in synthetic data for medical applications.
Your Responsibilities
The primary focus of the position is to conduct research in machine learning related to synthetic data for medical applications. The goal is to develop new machine learning methods and other data-driven AI methods to create better and fairer synthetic data. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with researchers in medicine, statistics, and ethics.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily engage in research. Teaching may also be included in your tasks, but no more than one-fifth of your working hours.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.
It is advantageous if your degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, those who obtained their doctoral degree earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.
The applicant must demonstrate outstanding merits in AI/ML and have shown excellence in their research. Publications in leading AI/ML conferences such as AAAI, ICML, IJCAI, and NeurIPS are expected. Knowledge and experience in synthetic data, preferably in medicine, is advantageous.
Scientific curiosity and the ability to think independently are essential personal qualities. You are expected to collaborate with colleagues and work together to support the research group's activities. You must also have good oral and written communication skills in English. Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish are a merit.
We are looking for enthusiastic and outgoing individuals to join our interdisciplinary research group. You should enjoy working as part of a team and be willing to learn from your colleagues and, in turn, share your knowledge and experience with them. You will also be encouraged to contribute to the training of junior group members and collaborate with other group members on various projects.

Your Workplace
The Department of Computer Science (IDA) was founded in 1983, but our roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in Northern Europe. Our research covers a wide range of areas, from fundamental computer science to applied fields. The extensive research also influences our undergraduate and graduate education, leading us to offer courses in several civil and engineering programs, as well as programs in innovative programming, cognitive science, and statistics. You will work in the Reasoning and Learning (ReaL) lab at the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Computer Systems (AIICS) at the Department of Computer Science (IDA) at Linköping University.
Linköping University (LiU) is a center for research excellence in AI with strong and broad research and education in AI, both from a technical and an interdisciplinary perspective. Coordinator for TrustLLM, a large EU project to develop trustworthy and fact-based language models. Host of Sweden's largest research programs, Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Wallenberg AI and Transformative Technologies Education Development Program (WASP-ED), as well as the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS), which includes a EuroHPC (Arrhenius) and an AI factory (Mimer).
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Computer Systems has a high international reputation for its research in many areas of AI dating back to the 1970s. The Reasoning and Learning lab primarily researches machine learning, reasoning, and their combination with applications in, for example, autonomous systems, multi-agent systems, and practical applications in both the public and private sectors.
About the Employment
The position is a fixed-term employment for two years with the possibility of extension for a total employment period of no more than three years. The position as a postdoctoral researcher is full-time.
Start date by agreement.
