Research Assistant at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the aim of conducting research and providing education in the field of peace and conflict studies.
Today, the department is a young, dynamic, and international workplace with about 90 employees and around 1000 students from all over the world. Courses are offered within undergraduate and master's programs, and we also have a doctoral program. Project
The department is seeking a research assistant to support two research projects during 2026. One project aims to conduct a study on the occurrence of mediation in armed conflicts and contribute to knowledge development regarding the conditions for conflict resolution in a changing global context. The project leader is Isak Svensson. The second project deals with legal mechanisms for war crimes, focusing on compiling data on legal processes and then analyzing the consequences of these. The project leader is Lisa Hultman.
Responsibilities
- Data collection: assist with materials regarding case studies on mediation efforts, gather data on civil society's roles in peace negotiations, and provide materials that describe previous research and the research landscape concerning various research debates within the field of conflict resolution
- Contribute to the implementation of a survey among individuals with experience working in peace mediation organizations
- Data management: write code in R and/or Stata to merge different data sources and data structures
- Descriptive analysis of data
- Literature review: summarize literature and organize references
- Administrative tasks to support the research projects.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in peace and conflict studies or equivalent
- Excellent command of English (both spoken and written)
- Excellent skills in R and/or Stata
- Experience in handling and merging datasets
- Very good collaborative skills and ability to work independently.
Desirable/meritorious
- Experience in data collection, especially within peace and conflict research or similar
- Good knowledge of literature on peace negotiations, mediation, and the role of civil society in peace processes
- Experience working with statistical analysis.

About the position
The position is: fixed-term (9 months, with the possibility of extension). The extent is: 100%. Start date: February 23, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
