Legal Advisor at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
The Legal Department currently consists of four units – the Client Law Unit, the Authority Law Unit, the Information Management Unit, and the Planning, Coordination, and Legal Development Unit.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a legal advisor, you will provide legal advice to the agency's management and other parts of the organization. You will continuously work to provide legal support in change and development processes and also contribute to the legal governance within the agency. Your responsibilities will include revising and following up on the agency's regulations and general advice as well as other governing documents. You will provide support and advice to other parts of the agency on various legal issues. You will prepare and present the agency's consultation responses, which may also include drafting proposals for statements to supervisory authorities. Your work may also involve preparing requests for legislative changes to the government.
The role of a legal advisor is independent and varied. It involves ongoing contacts with other authorities and other parts of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. There are good opportunities for remote work of up to 60 percent depending on individual circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS
You are a person who works well with others by being attentive and communicative. You are meticulous and well aware of goals and quality standards, can make correct assessments and priorities. You take responsibility for your tasks, structure your approach independently, and drive your processes forward while daring to act on your own convictions. In this role, you will also deal with complex issues, analyze and solve complicated problems. You understand complex linguistic materials in both speech and writing and can produce your own high-quality documents.

We are looking for someone who has:
- Law degree
- Clerk qualifications or other experience deemed equivalent
- Very good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish
It is advantageous if you have:
- Judicial training
- Experience working as a court secretary
- Experience in qualified investigative work
- Experience in qualified legal work in the Government Offices
- Experience working with legal issues within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
- Experience working as a legal advisor within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service or at another government agency
- Experience working with issues of public access and confidentiality
- Experience working with IT legal issues
- Experience in qualified investigative work concerning data protection issues
