Economist at Karolinska Institute
We are looking for a flexible and experienced Economist for our client, Karolinska Institute in Solna.
- Scope: The scope of the position is determined by need and can vary between 60-100 %
- Duration: Until 2026-05-31, possibly longer.
- Start: 2026-02-09
You will be employed by Poolia but will work at our client.
About the Position
Location: Karolinska Institute, Biomedicum
Your Main Responsibilities
As a senior economist at KI, you will be a very important part of the daily contact with the institution's employees. You will work closely with the core operations and provide support for both researchers and other employees. Your work will include being the contact person for research groups and working with budgeting and monitoring their finances. The role of senior economist involves a combination of independent and analytical work as well as some routine tasks, including ongoing monitoring, accounting, and reporting of research projects that can be both external and internal.
Many projects are also international projects with funding from the EU, ERC, NIH, and many other foreign financiers.
You will support the institution's researchers in budget work related to grant applications and in monitoring individual projects. Calculating and monitoring income and expenses are also part of the job responsibilities.
Who Are You?
To be considered for the role, you need to meet the SKA requirements for the position:
- University degree in economics.
- At least fifteen (15) years of work experience in economics such as controlling, process work, risk analysis, system familiarity, contract management, reporting, and monitoring both internally and to external stakeholders, presentations regarding financial outcomes, and action plans in case of problems.
- Experience working in IT systems such as UBW/Agresso, VIS, Primula, or equivalent.
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written (the work is conducted in an international environment).
- At least six (6) years of experience working at an auditing firm.
- Be flexible as the assignment may be less than 100% during parts of the assignment.
- Experience working with organizational changes related to financial systems and associated processes.
- Familiarity with process-oriented work and risk thinking.
- Experience working with change processes within finance.
As KI operates in an international environment, it is of great importance that you have very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
Additionally, you should be able to perform the following tasks:
- Operational work regarding monitoring and reporting of external projects to funders.
- Operational work regarding monitoring and reporting of various projects internally within KI.
- Operationally work with the institution's budgeting and year-end work. Support the institution's researchers in budget work related to grant applications and in monitoring individual projects.
- Calculating and monitoring income and expenses.
- Relieving the Chief Financial Officer.
