Boverket is looking for employees in sustainable building and energy

Boverket is the national authority for planning, construction, and housing. We aim to contribute to a sustainable society with good housing in viable environments. The focus is on issues related to the built environment, management of land and water areas, physical planning, construction, and management of buildings, housing, and housing finance. Since July 2025, Boverket is also the preparedness authority within the preparedness sector for industry, construction, and trade.

Boverket has its headquarters located in Karlskrona, with a smaller office in Malmö. Today, about 240 people work at the agency, including architects, civil engineers, economists, lawyers, communicators, planners, and social scientists.

In the unit for sustainable building and energy, 17 people work with climate, energy, and environmental issues. This can involve everything from developing energy declarations, climate declarations, resilient water strategies, or conducting investigations on circular economy in the construction sector. We have many international contacts, primarily focused on our neighboring countries in the Nordic region and participating in EU work.

Job Responsibilities

Do you want to contribute to developing society in a sustainable direction? We are looking for someone with a desire to work with energy-efficient buildings but who can also take on other tasks within sustainable building. Boverket works with several exciting areas, including energy efficiency and sustainable building, to achieve a building stock that contributes to a sustainable energy system. A society where cultural values are preserved, and people can afford to live while reducing the climate impact from construction and buildings.

We are currently working intensively on energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and climate impact from a life cycle perspective through the Directive on the energy performance of buildings, which will become part of Swedish legislation. Boverket has also been tasked by the government to manage an information center for sustainable building focusing on energy-efficient measures in existing buildings.

With us, you will work on the interplay between technology, law, and practice to contribute to improvement work within the construction and real estate sector. You will bring your drive and knowledge in the field. Specifically, the tasks will largely involve investigative work and sometimes leading projects. Reports, regulations, guidance texts, web, and seminars are our tools.

The assignments are often carried out in project form. An important part of the work is to collaborate with colleagues, other authorities, industry, and academia to achieve the best results. Within your areas, you will use and develop your experiences and network in energy, construction, environment, and sustainability. You will also eventually be involved in other assignments related to your expertise. The position is based at Boverket's headquarters in Karlskrona. At Boverket, there is the opportunity to work remotely, as long as the tasks allow it, up to 49% of the working time. We are looking for reinforcement with a new colleague for a permanent position due to retirement.

Qualifications

Your educational background is a suitable academic degree, such as a master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on community building, mechanical engineering with an energy focus. You may also have an education in environmental and sustainable building or other education that the employer deems relevant to the role.

To be considered for this position, it is important that you are good at analyzing and understanding information, that you can see connections and draw conclusions. It is an advantage if you have previously worked on investigating or researching issues related to relevant technology.

You can express yourself clearly and concisely in both spoken and written Swedish and have good reading comprehension in English as well.

You can work independently and in a structured manner to achieve set goals. Since the work often takes place through collaboration in our teams and in cooperation with other authorities, it is important that you are receptive, have an easy time collaborating, and can express yourself clearly and pedagogically. You have a good ability to communicate complex issues effectively to different target groups and can build relationships with partners from various backgrounds. You feel comfortable giving public presentations. We place great emphasis on these personal abilities.
