Would you like to help shape the future testing operations within SSAB Special Steels? We are now looking for a development engineer who wants to contribute to the strategic development of a business that plays a central role in SSAB's climate transition and the development of advanced steel products. Location: Oxelösund.
Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future and sustainability of our planet. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges that connect our cities, and in tomorrow's cars. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. Therefore, we have developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contributing to a green transition of the entire steel industry.
As a development engineer in the Testing department, you will work in a central and strategic role where you develop and drive long-term planning, efficiency, and quality assurance of the testing operations. In this role, you will work closely with our three laboratory sections - mechanical testing, chemistry, and metallography, with a main focus on mechanical testing. You will help coordinate methods, routines, and follow-up to ensure a uniform and efficient testing operation.
The role requires a high degree of independence. You are expected to take your own initiatives, identify needs, and create progress. With good judgment, you will determine when issues should be reported or escalated to the department manager.
You will take on the role of one of two quality leaders within the Testing organization. You will lead and participate in both internal and external development and research projects and follow up on overall testing data to support management and improvement work. The role involves broad collaboration within SSAB and with external partners.
Your main responsibilities
- Quality leader for our accredited operations, ISO/IEC 17025.
- Drive the strategic development of the testing operations with a focus on long-term efficiency, quality, and capacity; more operational issues are also included in the role.
- Coordinate working methods between laboratories and ensure uniform methods, routines, and follow-up.
- Initiate, lead, and participate in internal and external development and research projects.
- Work independently with responsibility for taking initiatives, driving work forward, and escalating issues as needed.
- Analyze and compile operational data and key figures as a basis for decision-making and improvement work.
About you
- You are a Civil Engineer or have equivalent technical education.
- You take initiative, work independently, and have the judgment to know when issues should be raised or escalated.
- You have strong analytical skills and a strategic approach.
- You have good collaboration and communication skills – you drive development through dialogue and cooperation.
- You have experience in testing, laboratory environments, or related technical fields.
- You enjoy working broadly and driving development.
- You communicate fluently in Swedish and English.
- If you have experience in quality management and/or ISO/IEC 17025, this is an advantage.
Our offer
At SSAB, diversity and inclusion are part of our culture. We use our values – driving, authentic, and one step ahead – in our daily decision-making, always with the customer in focus. This makes us all team players, with a common goal of improving ourselves. When you start at SSAB, you become part of an organization with passionate problem solvers who work together on important challenges. We will support your growth by offering a safe and friendly workplace that contributes to the balance between work and private life. At SSAB, you have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and grow.
