Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the Swedish Customs

The IT department of the Swedish Customs in Luleå is northern Sweden's largest employer in IT, with approximately 300 employees. Here, you will work with the latest technology and participate in the development of several exciting areas of operation. Together with colleagues who complement each other, you will solve new tasks every day and contribute to the Swedish Customs' vital societal mission.

Do you want to help shape the digital infrastructure for a safe, modern, and accessible Sweden? As Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the Swedish Customs, you will play a key role in driving technical decisions in an important operation for businesses, individuals, and other authorities.

About the position

As CTO at the Swedish Customs, you have an important role in making decisions and analyzing IT technology that contributes to technical development and digital transformation. As CTO, you will lead the work of implementing new technology and assess and manage risks. Furthermore, you will also have an important task in leading the development of guidelines and guidance, as well as ensuring that other parts of the organization implement the IT technical solutions appropriately. You will also assess the technical solutions from an economic perspective and ensure they are maintainable over time. In addition, it is important to have the ability to inspire employees from different areas to work together towards common goals to best develop and streamline work, as well as to create and strengthen community and engagement.
The role of CTO is new at the Swedish Customs, which means you will have great opportunities to influence how the work should be structured and performed.

You will also collaborate closely with other departments, units, and development areas to ensure that our IT solutions are effective, user-friendly, and aligned with our overall strategies and goals. Your work will be crucial in promoting innovation and digitalization within the authority.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a university degree in IT or equivalent work experience that the employer deems comparable.
  • at least 5 years of work in a similar role within IT.
  • experience working in agile organizations.
  • good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • Swedish citizenship.

It is advantageous if you have experience in the following:

  • broad and current knowledge of IT infrastructure, IT platforms, IT operations, and IT development.
  • several years of experience in the IT industry with expertise from technical to leadership roles.
  • the ability to continuously stay updated with technical trends in programming languages, platforms, infrastructure, development methodologies, etc.
  • AI and machine learning.
  • IT and information security.
  • Agile and innovative working methods.
  • experience in public sector work and/or larger companies.
