We are transitioning to the title of nursing assistant and will gradually phase out the title of caregiver across all our psychiatric services. This work started on November 1, 2023. The change in title will not alter the need for specialist competence in psychiatry. Specialist competence remains very important and will continue to be developed. Within the administration, work has begun to review what is needed for continued professional development, increased professional knowledge, and development opportunities related to patient work.

The area of operation (VO) forensic psychiatry belongs to the administration of Psychiatry, habilitation, and aids. The area consists of nine forensic psychiatric inpatient units located in Trelleborg, Helsingborg, Hässleholm, and Kristianstad. Our outpatient units are in Malmö, Helsingborg, and Hässleholm, and we currently have about 400 employees.

Forensic psychiatry cares for individuals who have been committed to forensic psychiatric care by the court. Many have severe psychotic disorders, multiple disabilities with functional impairments, brain injuries, severe personality disorders, or substance abuse. Secondary complications such as lack of formal education, criminality, social isolation, and ostracism are common. The goal of forensic psychiatric care is to habilitate individuals suffering from severe mental illness to a daily life in society with a reduced risk of reoffending.

In Hässleholm, there is one outpatient unit and three inpatient units; units 10, 11, and 12. Additionally, we have unit 9 with ten care places in Kristianstad. The inpatient units in Hässleholm have a total of 37 care places. They are primarily intended for patients who have been committed to forensic psychiatric care by the court. Patients may, in some cases, be with us for long periods, which gives us unique opportunities to follow them during the treatment and rehabilitation process. We work to ensure that all patients within inpatient care are our shared responsibility, and it is a given that we help each other between departments as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now welcoming nursing assistants in psychiatry for hourly employment to our inpatient departments in Hässleholm and Kristianstad. The hourly employment can lead to longer temporary positions.

Within psychiatry, you will be offered an exciting and interesting job with opportunities for knowledge development in all areas of the operation. As a nursing assistant/care assistant with us, you will participate in the psychiatric care of our patients, working for high patient safety through close collaboration with both colleagues and patients. Your work includes common nursing assistant tasks, including being responsible for daily routines, support conversations, group activities, and documentation in the Melior journal system.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has completed a nursing program with a focus on psychiatric care, or equivalent education, and has good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written. You may also have completed at least the fourth term of a nursing education or at least the sixth term as a medical student. Employment as a healthcare assistant may be relevant for a temporary position based on the employer's assessment of competence. Previous experience as a nursing assistant in psychiatry, preferably in inpatient care, and knowledge of the Melior journal system is an advantage.
