Special Education Teacher at SiS Youth Home Tysslinge

The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care, SiS, is an authority responsible for individually tailored compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with addiction. SiS also implements closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and homes for adults with addiction, across the country. With us at SiS, your work life will be an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you help create life-changing transformations.

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge, located outside Södertälje, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues as well as criminality and addiction.

Job Description

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge is a high-security institution that receives young people with high risks for threats, violence, and absconding. The institution is currently in a development and expansion phase as we will soon reopen two of our youth departments. After reopening, we will have a total of seven departments at the institution, which accommodate young people placed according to the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU), young people sentenced under the Act on Closed Youth Care (LSU), and a department consisting of places for young people who are cared for in isolation (VIE) for a period.

Tysslinge is renovating and developing its operations, where school is an important and central part of the care and treatment of the young people and serves as a vital protective factor. The school is governed by the Education Act and provides individually tailored schooling within introductory programs.

We are now looking for a Special Education Teacher for a permanent position.

SiS is responsible for the education of all enrolled young people, regardless of their issues or placement form. All young people residing at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. At Tysslingeskolan, we offer instruction at the primary and secondary school levels within the framework of language introduction and individual alternatives. We work with a special pedagogical approach and continuously develop our skills. Tysslingeskolan currently consists of eleven teachers, one special teacher, one study and career counselor with administrative responsibility, and one principal. The school is in constant development and is highly prioritized within SiS.

As a special education teacher with us, you contribute an important special pedagogical perspective to the entire school's work. We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting students where they are, creating motivation, and adapting instruction so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. In your role as a special education teacher at Tysslingeskolan, we expect you to be a natural part of daily instruction while also participating in meetings about and with students. You need to appreciate being able to navigate the special pedagogical field at the individual, group, and organizational levels and include the entire home as a resource in the work with each student in focus. Your tasks include conducting pedagogical assessments, investigations for special support, and action programs. During the 2025/2026 academic year, attendance work is prioritized, and the student health team has the support of a collaboration with SPSM, where we see that our special education teacher will become an important key person. Another expectation is to be able to mentor teachers, develop instruction in collaboration with the teaching staff, and ensure that the local student health plan is implemented while supporting the principal in planning and developing student health work at the school.

We have our LVU students for shorter periods and our LSU students for longer periods, but the operations and student base are characterized by rapid changes. You will work closely with the teaching staff and other professionals, such as study and career counselors and psychologists, and you will also be a natural part of the school's student health team. As a special education teacher, you will also be part of a national professional network with special teachers and special educators from the authority's institutions in different parts of the country.

At Tysslingeskolan, we apply a vacation service, and the main work takes place on-site.

As a new employee, you will undergo SiS basic training to prepare you for your new role in SiS operations.
