The Mother Tongue Unit in Helsingborg is a dynamic and multicultural workplace where 70 dedicated teachers together teach approximately 3500 students in over 40 different languages. The unit is responsible for organizing and planning mother tongue instruction and study guidance for multilingual students in the city's schools. As a study guide at the Mother Tongue Unit, you will work in both municipal and independent primary and secondary schools throughout the city and have the opportunity to meet students of different ages.

Job Responsibilities

As a study guide, you support students in understanding and assimilating the content of various subjects in their mother tongue or strongest language. Study guidance often occurs in parallel with teaching, and your role is to support the student's language and knowledge development in different school subjects.

You will have close collaboration with mentors and subject teachers, and study guidance can take place both in groups and individually. The work is distributed across various schools around Helsingborg.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a Swedish teaching license in the subject of mother tongue or another educational qualification. We seek someone with Bengali as their mother tongue and who is willing to provide study guidance in all subjects in school for all school forms. You should have good knowledge of Swedish and have completed Swedish 3 at the high school level. Furthermore, you are expected to work goal-oriented and have a deep understanding of the national and municipal governing documents that guide the school's operations. Your ability to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching in accordance with these governing documents is crucial to ensuring high quality and goal fulfillment.

In the role of mother tongue teacher and study guide, it is also important that you are comfortable using digital tools both in teaching and for administrative purposes. You should be able to plan and conduct lessons with the support of digital tools and use IT systems to document and follow up on students' knowledge development. The work requires you to be self-sufficient and able to organize your work independently while carefully managing administrative tasks such as grading, assessment, and student documentation. The ability to balance the pedagogical and administrative aspects of the job is a central part of the position.
