We offer a varied and broad assignment focused on developing the National Archives' and the state's information management. The National Archives is currently in an intensive development phase due to the state's digitization and the changing global landscape. As a legal advisor, you play an important role in this development.
About the assignment
The position is located within the legal function. The function is responsible for legal governance, development, and support at the National Archives and currently consists of a chief legal officer and four legal advisors. The assignment is broad, focusing on legal issues regarding information management, particularly digital information management due to the rapid development within the National Archives and the state. This includes, among other things, questions about the regulations issued by the National Archives' regulations and guidelines, the development of how the National Archives provides information from the archives via e-services, and the creation of AI tools that can benefit society's access to information. In 2025, the National Archives became a preparedness authority. Therefore, the legal work in the area of security and preparedness has a particular focus in our work.
As a legal advisor, you work broadly within the function's area of responsibility with qualified and strategically important legal issues and contribute legal expertise to various projects and assignments. You develop internal governing documents and provide legal support in the authority's development work. An important part is the support in the authority's extensive regulatory work. You also provide support to the operations in areas such as confidentiality assessments, contract writing, procurement, and copyright issues. The unit also handles certain ongoing legal matters such as referral management, litigation, JO/JK cases, data protection issues, work against irregularities, and staffing the authority's whistleblower function.
As a legal advisor, you work closely with the agency's management and have many contacts with managers and employees within the agency. You also represent the agency externally when needed and participate in collaboration with other authorities.
About you
You should have:
- a law degree,
- several years of experience in qualified legal work, for example as an assessor or equivalent,
- experience in qualified administrative law issues, and
- good knowledge of public access and confidentiality as well as data protection legislation.
It is meritorious if you have:
- experience in qualified legal work related to e-government and IT development in the areas of administrative law, data protection, public access, and confidentiality,
- experience in legislative work and other qualified legal investigative work,
- experience in working with preparedness and security issues,

You have a good ability to see the big picture, are analytical, used to working independently, and can drive your work forward. You are flexible, attentive, and have an easy time collaborating and building good relationships. Furthermore, you are a good communicator who adapts your language to the audience.

Employment type: Permanent employment
Working hours: Full-time
Workplace: Placement at one of the National Archives' operational locations (Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund, Härnösand, Uppsala, Visby, Vadstena, Östersund)
The National Archives applies individual salary setting and a 6-month probationary period.
Start date: As soon as possible or by agreement
