Our Operations

The Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Team is a regional specialist service tasked with investigating, diagnosing, treating, and making care level assessments for geriatric psychiatric patients in outpatient care. The target group is older individuals with complex psychiatric conditions where symptoms are often related to aging, such as affective and psychotic disorders, often in combination with varying degrees of cognitive impairment.

The service is also responsible for the investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and care level assessment of individuals with dementia and simultaneously severe psychiatric symptoms, BPSD (Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia), where care requires specialist interventions beyond conventional dementia care.

The assignment also includes consultation, guidance, and educational initiatives towards care neighbors such as primary care, municipal services, students, and residents in training. The team is multiprofessional and consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, and administrative staff, creating good conditions for close collaboration around the patient. Patients come to the clinic via referrals or self-referrals. The work also includes support and guidance for relatives in connection with the patient's illness, disability, and changed behaviors. Collaboration with the municipality and primary care is a natural and central part of the operation. Depending on needs and situations, patient meetings take place at the clinic or in the patient's home.

Psychiatry today meets a growing target group of older individuals with mental health issues and complex care needs. To meet future needs and simultaneously further develop working methods and collaboration, we are now strengthening the team through a time-limited expansion. The position offers the opportunity to be involved in a development-oriented work within a specialist area of great societal relevance.

Your Assignment

As a social worker in the Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Team, you will work with traditional social worker tasks, such as coordination and social investigation of patients' individual needs for psychosocial interventions. You will support patients and their relatives in contact with the municipality and other social authorities, and participate in psychoeducational initiatives for both patients and relatives. Together with the team, you will be responsible for guidance and training for care neighbors and contribute to the development of working methods and care processes. Since Akademiska sjukhuset is a university hospital with assignments in healthcare, education, and research, you will also have the opportunity to help develop care for geriatric psychiatric patients. Being a social worker with us means exciting and varied work where you meet people in many different situations. You will become part of a skilled and supportive team while also working independently with challenging and meaningful tasks.

Your Qualifications

You have a degree in social work and enjoy working with people. Experience in specialist psychiatry or with the elderly is an advantage. You always put the patient in focus and are responsible, motivated, flexible, and solution-oriented. You can work independently and in a team. A driver's license is required.

We Offer

The position is a fixed-term employment at 100% until February 29, 2028, with a start date according to agreement. Prior to starting, a background check will be conducted.
