We are looking for a relationship-oriented and NPF-trained substitute teacher for Sjumilaskolan in Upplands Väsby municipality!
Are you a person who sees educational puzzles as an opportunity rather than a problem? You are motivated by understanding how different brains work and thrive in an environment where adaptations are the norm, not the exception.
For you, special education is not just a tool but an approach, and you have the ability to remain calm and creative even when the day doesn't go as planned.
We offer you
With us, you step into a role where you actually have the conditions to do what you do best. With only 50 students at the school and a high staff density, we offer a work environment where you have the time required to build genuine relationships and work qualitatively with each individual. You will become an important part of a humble and deeply engaged faculty that is passionate about special education; here we support each other in challenges and ensure that we share both expertise and laughter.
We are proud of our outdoor profile, nature-based schoolyard, and the beautiful surroundings, which we actively use as an extension of the classroom to create calm and stimulation. Here we value your creativity and initiatives, and you will have ample space to help shape a learning environment where every student can flourish.
About us
We are a small resource school with 50 students and a team of about 20 dedicated staff, beautifully located with nature at our doorstep. Our mission is to provide a safe and adapted learning environment for students who need special support to succeed. All our students have diagnoses within NPF, and our staff need to have a special understanding of, and functional competence to meet, students with autism. We work with signs as support and alternative communication, and we see that you also have practical knowledge of principles for low-arousal responses and good knowledge of the use of clarifying pedagogy.
About the position
In this substitute position, you will be able to use your special educational competence in practice by leading targeted reading training and conducting teaching in both mathematics and Swedish for the school's students. The work takes place in smaller groups or one-on-one, which gives you the opportunity to really focus on the individual's progress. You are used to planning and implementing teaching based on the curriculum and are inspired by working interdisciplinary and thematically. During the late spring, you will also become a key person in our onboarding processes, where your ability to meet each student's unique needs lays the foundation for a safe start with us. You work in a team where we support each other and together find solutions that make a real difference. With us, the student is always at the center.
There is a possibility that the substitute position may be extended.
Are you the one we are looking for?
To thrive and succeed in the role, we see that you have a pedagogical foundation and a genuine interest in the special educational challenge.
We are looking for you who:
- Have a pedagogical education and teaching certification, preferably with a focus on special education or reading and writing development.
- Have experience working with children in need of special support, preferably within NPF.
- Possess good knowledge in teaching Swedish and mathematics at a basic level.
- Are comfortable working both independently one-on-one and in smaller groups.
It is advantageous if you have:
- In-depth knowledge of NPF: Experience with specific methods or approaches such as low-arousal responses (LAB) or clarifying pedagogy (TEACCH) and TAKK.
- Specialized reading and writing learning: Experience with evidence-based methods for reading training, such as intensive reading or the use of compensatory aids.
- Experience with onboarding processes: If you have previously worked with transitions or introducing students to new school environments.
- Outdoor pedagogy: Knowledge of or interest in using nature as a pedagogical tool, which fits well with our nature-based surroundings.
As a person, you are relationship-building and have the ability to quickly gain students' trust, which is crucial in both teaching and onboarding. You are solution-focused and patient, see opportunities where others see obstacles, and remain calm in challenging situations. Since we work closely together, we value that you are collaborative and enjoy sharing knowledge with your colleagues.
Warm welcome with your application!
