About us

An important goal for Solna is to develop sustainably, increase biodiversity, and strengthen Solna's green infrastructure.

The environment and climate unit coordinates the city's environmental and climate work and supports all city administrations in their efforts. The unit consists of a unit manager, a municipal ecologist/environmental specialist, a water strategist, and two environmental strategists. The unit is growing and is now looking for an ecologist to contribute to strengthening the city's work on biodiversity. The various areas of responsibility within the unit are closely linked, and everyone benefits from each other's projects and different areas of expertise.

The unit is part of the urban planning administration, which has about 80 employees. The unit reports to the municipal executive board and the environmental and health protection committee. Your manager also has personnel and budget responsibility for the seven individuals working as environmental inspectors in the environmental protection unit, and there is an exchange of knowledge and experience between the units.

What does the job entail?

You will work closely with your nearest colleague, who is a municipal ecologist and environmental specialist in physical planning, while also managing your own projects and responsibilities. You will also be an important support to the water strategist in achieving good ecological status for the city's water. You will participate in many different contexts where strategic planning is required in matters concerning nature.

You will provide expert support in green issues to the environmental protection unit and the building permit unit in matters concerning shoreline protection, nature reserves, trees, and nature. You will be a very important support to the technical administration regarding the ongoing management of nature reserves and other natural areas, providing ideas and support for projects that develop the conditions for biodiversity and strengthen Solna's green infrastructure.

You will procure consultants for species inventory, follow up on the consultant's work, and compile and disseminate the results. You will produce overarching material on biodiversity, have ongoing consultations with the city's communications unit, and serve as a contact point for associations and the public on matters related to your area of expertise.

You will be an advisory support in matters concerning nature when new detailed plans are developed, but the main responsibility for this lies with your nearest colleague. The work includes reviewing nature value inventories and providing support in using Solna's tools for ecosystem services.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who

• is an educated ecologist, green biologist, or equivalent.
• has several years of professional experience in the public or private sector.
• is used to collaborating with various stakeholders and is responsive to the interplay in a politically governed organization.
• can express themselves well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

It is advantageous if you have

• knowledge and experience in species inventory, nature value inventories, and mapping of ecosystem services.
• good knowledge of tree needs and conditions.
• knowledge of how to work and produce materials in GIS.

The assignment requires you to work independently, take great responsibility for your tasks, and ensure the unit's and the city's common results. You set and adhere to timelines, are structured, and can plan your work independently within your areas of responsibility. Furthermore, you can convey facts in a simple and clear manner and have a drive that inspires others to contribute to the work on biodiversity.

As you will be in contact with politicians, civil servants, entrepreneurs, and citizens, it is essential that you are service-oriented, communicative, and have a good ability to collaborate with others.
