District Veterinarian

Ready for a job where no day is the same – and where your patients may have feathers, fur, or hooves?

With us, you will make a real difference – for parrots, cows, cats, camels, and everything in between. We work with all species of animals, and it is this variety that makes the job incredibly rewarding and fun.

We are the District Veterinarians – a community-supporting organization with the heart for animals and feet firmly on the ground. With clinics across the country, 24/7 emergency care, and unique expertise in animal health, we contribute to a safer life for both animals and humans. Our veterinarians work on behalf of individuals, companies, and authorities – always focusing on emergency care, disease control, and preventive measures.

The District Veterinarians are part of the Swedish Board of Agriculture – and we are looking for you who want to make a difference every day.

Öland is Sweden's second-largest island, connected to the mainland by Sweden's longest bridge, the Öland Bridge, to Kalmar, a charming university town. Many may know Öland as a summer paradise, but it is also beautiful year-round with rich birdlife, rare plants, and great hiking and biking trails.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Your main responsibilities with us at the District Veterinarians are to contribute as a team member in our daily clinical work and to contribute to the clinic's overall development at your own level. If you have a special competence or interest, we would like to highlight it in the best way. Your introduction at the workplace will be tailored to your skills, experience, and areas of interest.

Upon employment with us, you will participate in the District Veterinarians' own professional development program, where you will continuously have the opportunity to participate and develop your skills. Experience exchange occurs within the organization, for example, in the District Veterinarians' Horse Working Group and Cattle Working Group. We have emergency care 24/7, all year round, which means that night and weekend work is part of the job. Sometimes you work alone, but you are never alone.

We primarily work with large animal practice in the field, both planned activities and emergency cases. We operate in both Öland and Kalmar districts. We also have a small animal clinic and a horse clinic at the clinic in Färjestaden, which is equipped with mobile X-ray, ultrasound, and blood lab. The work is often independent and varied, which means you perform everything from simple treatments to more advanced procedures and animal welfare cases. Your colleagues and our senior veterinarians are always there to support you.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are now looking for a licensed veterinarian who enjoys working with various species of animals, but you may have a special interest in horses. You can be newly graduated or more experienced.

You enjoy collaborating with others and value good teamwork. As a veterinarian, you take responsibility for driving your work forward. You thrive in an environment where the day can quickly change, where we adapt and help each other to handle the situations that arise together.

With your calmness and ability to be structured, you plan and organize your work effectively. As a veterinarian, you quickly find solutions to emerging problems and demonstrate good judgment in the decisions you make.

Swedish veterinary license and a B driver's license are required.

Previous professional experience as a veterinarian is an advantage, especially working with horses.

Warm welcome to submit your application. Recruitment is ongoing!

OTHER

We care about our staff. Therefore, we offer all employees within the District Veterinarians various benefits. For you as a parent, we have good conditions to find a balance between work and family life, including parental leave supplements and the opportunity to reduce your working hours until the child is twelve years old.

We strive for diversity among our employees.

Our working language is Swedish, and our positions require you to master Swedish in both spoken and written form.

We normally apply a 6-month probationary period.
