The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is a government agency that, together with the police, prosecutors, and courts, is responsible for reducing crime and increasing public safety. Most individuals sentenced to probation are placed in community service. Community service is probation that takes place in society, where a sentence in probation involves both control and support for the sentenced individuals. The probation service operates according to the vision of Better Out.

We are now looking for summer interns who want to work with supervision as probation officers at one of the offices in the Stockholm Region. The offices are located in Gärdet, Huddinge, and Sollentuna, all with good transport links. As a summer intern, you are important to us and contribute to our regular employees being able to take vacation. As a substitute, you will work during a period when the operations in certain parts and tasks are adjusted to vacation times, which may mean that you will not participate in or perform all the tasks that a regular probation officer does.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a probation officer in the supervision team, your primary task is to meet with probation clients and support them in avoiding recidivism through regular conversations based on CBT-based methods. You are responsible for ensuring that clients serve their sentences and coordinate efforts in the execution plan, a crime prevention planning for the client's time in probation.

The role is both controlling and supportive to reduce the risk of clients reoffending. In the supervision team, you will be responsible for conditionally released clients and clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. You will also motivate participation in treatment and criminal justice programs.

The position requires you to independently plan, execute, and document client meetings according to applicable legislation. The work is client-focused and consists of conversations aimed at preventing recidivism. The role also includes providing advice and support in contacts with other authorities and service providers. The probation service collaborates with social services, addiction care, police, and courts. As a probation officer, you will also be part of the office's security organization and contribute to the probation service's security work.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who collaborates well with others while remaining calm and composed in demanding situations. You preferably have previous experience in social work, treatment or investigative work, authority exercise, or security work. You enjoy working in a structured manner based on legislation and are comfortable with client-facing work that involves many conversations and the use of evidence-based methods to prevent recidivism.

You should have good judgment, strong pedagogical skills, and the ability to drive your work independently. You are meticulous, goal-oriented, and results-driven, with the ability to make wise assessments and act with high personal integrity. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the individual's will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A current bachelor's degree or an academic degree at least at the bachelor's level in social sciences, preferably behavioral science, criminology, law, or social work
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Work experience in probation, client-facing work, law, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare
  • Experience working in probation or another client-facing role within the criminal justice system
  • Experience with CBT methods
  • Experience in investigative work focusing on risk and needs assessments
