About the Workplace

The Fire and Rescue Service in Ale and Kungälv municipalities is organized under the Bohus Fire and Rescue Service Association, and our mission is to create safety and security for over 80,000 citizens.

Our task is to work for protection against accidents, and our work ranges from traditional fire services to risk prevention and various safety-enhancing initiatives. For this work, we have a variety of competencies that operate in several municipal activities as well as among citizens and private organizations.

We have about 150 employees distributed across four fire stations. Both full-time and part-time firefighters work in the organization.

Job Responsibilities

In the role of incident commander, there will always be fundamental tasks that are both operational and preventive.

You will primarily work with operational issues where the need exists. The tasks will vary in nature and over time depending on your competencies and the needs of the association.

The work as an incident commander requires that you can independently plan and execute work according to established operational goals. The tasks also include independently driving and participating in projects, collaborating with other organizations and authorities, and contributing to the organization's development. You should be able to conduct analyses and evaluations independently and be the face of the fire service and the extended arm of management.

Depending on who you are and what experiences you have, the area of responsibility and tasks may vary over time.

The position is a combination of daytime and operational shifts.

Qualifications

  • Basic eligibility for higher education
  • Leadership course for strength leaders and leadership course for incident commanders or equivalent older training. Alternatively, you have a fire engineering degree with additional training in fire service for fire engineers (RUB). A B driver's license is required.
  • It is an advantage if you have 3-5 years of experience in rescue leadership.
  • It is an advantage if you have experience in preventive work and supervisory activities.
  • We would also like you to have Supervision A, but it is not a requirement.

You have a knack for building good relationships with colleagues, partners, and people in the community. You are attentive and clear in your communication, and it is beneficial if you have experience in leading work. Other personal qualities we value are your ability to switch between operational, preventive, and strategic tasks. You are analytical and confident in making your own decisions, and you are well acquainted with and knowledgeable about the entire mission of the Fire Service.

Before employment is offered, you must undergo an approved medical examination, and a fitness certificate must be presented. The employer will also conduct a drug test and request a criminal record extract upon hiring.
