Legal Advisors at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's legal unit is expanding, and we are now looking for two legal advisors specializing in administrative law and grant management.

The legal advisors provide legal support in matters concerning general administrative law, procurement, data protection, digitalization and IT law, contracts and agreements, damages, public access and confidentiality, preparedness and security, as well as grants and state aid. The unit is also responsible for overall work related to legal security and is in charge of efforts against corruption and irregularities. With us, you will have the opportunity to work with challenging and current legal issues and help drive the development towards a sustainable environment. There are eleven lawyers working in the legal unit.

Your Responsibilities

As a legal advisor, you will work under the guidance of the unit manager to provide legal support to the agency. You will contribute to ensuring that the agency's work is conducted and developed in a legally secure and efficient manner. This entails varied tasks that require your ability to combine strong knowledge in the relevant legal areas with an understanding of what best contributes to the effective fulfillment of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's mission in accordance with applicable law.

The positions involve providing broad legal support to the agency's grant operations. This means you will work with, among other things, legal quality assurance of terms and decisions, supporting in recovery, appeals, and crime reports, as well as participating in efforts to prevent incorrect payments.

In addition to work related to the agency's grant operations, the position as a legal advisor means that you, together with other lawyers in the unit and in close collaboration with various professional categories and parts of the organization, will:

  • Provide ongoing legal support to the operations,
  • Support the chief legal officer,
  • Draft legal investigations and make legal assessments in larger legal issues,
  • Contribute to developing routines and working methods by participating in the development of agency-wide governing and supporting documents,
  • Participate in projects, government assignments, and consultation responses, and
  • Contribute to establishing and developing processes for case handling and decision-making.

You will, together with colleagues in the unit, conduct internal training within the unit's areas of responsibility.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a law degree and several years of relevant legal experience. You should have broad legal competence and be able to make independent assessments based on an analysis of the legal conditions. Furthermore, you should have experience working in courts, ministries, law firms, or other government agencies. You should have good knowledge of administrative law.

It is an advantage if you have relevant experience working with state aid to businesses or have expertise in state aid.

We are looking for someone who is independent, responsible, and meticulous. We expect you to have good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written. To thrive, you should also:

  • Be service-oriented and enjoy collaborating with different professional categories,
  • Be solution-oriented and able to prioritize, and
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be accustomed to working efficiently and sometimes under time pressure.

About the Positions

The positions are permanent at 100%. Start date is as soon as possible or by agreement. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency applies a six-month probationary period. You will be located in our pleasant activity-based premises in Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm or Östersund.
