Java Developer at the Migration Agency

At the Migration Agency, we work with one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. We are about 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job!

The Migration Agency's development organization consists of 20 self-managing teams and is at the forefront of using new technologies.

Right now, the Migration Agency is developing a lot of new things, and most of the internal processing systems are custom-developed Java applications.

As a Java developer with us, you will be an important player in this journey.

In our teams, community is highly valued, and everyone contributes to a good working climate where we learn from each other, appreciate each other's differences, and have an inclusive culture. To ensure that the solutions we develop make everyday life easier and contribute to efficiency, the development teams work closely with our users. The teams are responsible for system support and components that support the agency's internal and external users and also continuously work on improvements and management of these.

The teams work on-site in our offices in Stockholm or Norrköping and, to some extent, remotely from home if desired. We believe that a well-balanced distribution of where one works promotes the work environment and that it is the task that determines where it is appropriate to perform it. A general rule we work from is that at least three of the week's working days are performed together in our offices.

You will, together with your colleagues:

  • collaborate closely with various roles, such as requirements analysts, testers, architects, product owners, etc.
  • develop and deliver new features and services.
  • maintain and improve existing features and services.
  • work with continuous deliveries.
  • work with tools, technologies, and frameworks that make development easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable.
  • test your and others' solutions as a natural part of the development process.
  • have contact and collaborate with the team's target groups, other development teams, and operations and support organizations.

We strive for modern working methods with a focus on automation and are now moving towards a new, modern, cloud-native platform based on Docker/Kubernetes, where you will contribute to the journey towards the new technology. Our platform primarily consists of React in the frontend and Java in the backend, where we use Spring Boot or Quarkus as the Java framework. We use Kafka as a streaming platform in an event-driven architecture.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with extensive experience in system development. You are quality-conscious and take responsibility for both your areas of responsibility and the whole together with the team, always focusing on the end users' needs. You are a team player who shares your knowledge and has a strong desire to learn new things.

As a person, you are engaged, curious, and enjoy collaborating with others. You have the ability to be self-sufficient and structure your daily work.

You, who are applying, have:

  • Relevant post-secondary education at a university or equivalent knowledge that the employer deems relevant.
  • At least three years of experience working as a system developer.
  • Good communication skills and can express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish.
  • Swedish citizenship.

It is meritorious if you have experience in:

  • CI/CD and agile methods.
  • SQL.
  • Modern Java-based frameworks.
  • Development in microservice environments.
  • Container platforms (Kubernetes/Docker).

Security clearance with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) will be conducted. Based on this, there is a requirement for Swedish citizenship.
