The Environmental and Community Planning Administration handles, among other things, environmental and health protection, building permits, GIS and measurement activities, as well as traffic matters. We currently have about 25 people sharing common premises that facilitate collaboration on shared issues.

The Environmental and Building Unit currently consists of an environmental and building manager, a building permit coordinator, two building inspectors, one supervision officer, five environmental inspectors, and one food inspector. We are now looking for a building inspector as one of our current inspectors is moving on to another job.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a building inspector, you will handle building permit matters and ensure that the technical property requirements are met in building permit and notification matters.

You will call and lead technical consultations with the applicant and their control responsible, as well as any consultants and contractors. You will conduct site visits, hold final consultations, and make decisions regarding start and completion notifications, as well as handling shoreline protection matters. You will prepare and present cases in the Environmental and Community Planning Committee. The work is independent, and decision-making primarily occurs by delegation. The position involves many daily contacts in meetings and by phone with both the public and professional actors in the construction industry. You will also provide overarching advice and information to the public on construction issues. The work is done in close collaboration with colleagues within the department, inspectors, coordinators, and administrators.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with an academic education as a building engineer or other education and experience that we consider equivalent.

You have good knowledge of planning and building legislation and experience working in various parts of the building permit process and applying legislation. Experience from municipal decision-making processes, familiarity with working in politically governed organizations, and exercising authority is an advantage.

As a person, you are development-oriented and have an easy time communicating with people. You have a good ability to plan and organize your work and the ability to prioritize during peak workloads.

To succeed in this role, it is important that you possess good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as you will document and communicate daily with businesses, the public, and colleagues. It is advantageous if you are proficient in other languages.

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. A driving license (B) is a requirement.
