About the Position

We are currently seeking a Financial Controller with a focus on EU matters for a government agency in Gothenburg. The agency is looking for a key person to coordinate and oversee financial processes for EU-funded projects. The role of Financial Controller involves providing advice to economists and managers regarding EU regulations, as well as developing and improving financial management practices. You will also participate in financial closing, forecasting, and budgeting. To succeed in the role of Financial Controller, experience in financial management within EU projects, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication skills are required.

The position is full-time but divided into two parts, where 70% involves advising on EU projects and 30% involves financial work with budgeting, financial closing, and other economic matters.

In your role as Financial Controller, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Advising and supporting in financial matters within the EU area to the Grants Office, managers, project leaders, researchers, and economists.
  • Ensuring good accounting according to internal and external regulations, including EU financial requirements.
  • Coordinating the agency's budget and financial closing work as well as other central financial processes within the area.
  • Interpreting and analyzing conditions from funders and other contractual parties to ensure correct handling and compliance.
  • Contributing to the development of the agency's financial processes by identifying areas for improvement and working towards more efficient routines and workflows.

Assignment Period and Scope:

The position of Financial Controller is a full-time consultancy assignment starting on 2026-02-01 and is expected to last until 2027-03-31.

Requirements for the Position:

  • Academic degree in economics, vocational training in economics, or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in qualified financial work including accounting, budgeting, and financial closing.
  • Experience in project accounting of EU-funded projects.
  • Participated in at least 10 projects in the last two (2) years.
  • Knowledge of EU regulations and the ability to set requirements, inform, and coordinate around them.
  • Experience working with financial and administrative support systems.
  • Very good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.

Meritorious for the Position:

  • Experience in qualified financial work within higher education/university.
