Contract Manager

BAE Systems Bofors works to strengthen defense capabilities in Sweden and in our partner states around the world. We do this by developing, producing, and selling the world's most advanced defense materials. BAE Systems Bofors operates along the entire Swedish defense political security belt and the company has approximately 750 employees located in Karlstad, Karlskoga, and Örebro. The company is part of one of the world's largest defense industry groups, BAE Systems, with over 100,000 employees. This gives us unique opportunities to combine our long tradition of local expertise with world-leading international experience.

Do you enjoy being where the business happens and having a central role in everything from early business setups to complex contract negotiations? Do you thrive in a varied and strategically important role where you combine operational work with leadership and the development of both people and processes? Become a part of our growing Legal & Contracts department!

Join our dedicated team. The department is growing both in assignments and responsibilities as a result of increased order intake and a growing need for support in our delivery projects.

The number of quotes and contracts is increasing and becoming more complex, which means higher demands for structure, control, and strong business acumen. Here, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of a central function while also having an important operational role close to the business, customers, and your colleagues.

About the position

Contract Manager is a new role for us, and in this role, you have a dual focus: you lead the section's employees, and you work operationally with business setups, contract issues, and customer dialogues. The role means that you are present in daily operations, participate in meetings with customers and partners, and support the department in more complex commercial issues.

You have personnel responsibility for a group of currently nine experienced and independent employees, and you drive the development of the department's working methods, processes, and strategic direction. The section is expected to continue to grow, and as a manager, you will have the opportunity to influence how the section will look and be organized going forward.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Being operationally involved in contract issues, negotiations, and business setups.
  • Supporting employees in complex customer discussions and commercial assessments.
  • Actively working before and during quote preparations, negotiations, including planning business models and setups.
  • Participating and contributing to reporting to the company's management team.
  • Gradually taking over certain reporting to the owners in the USA after consultation with the Head of Legal & Contracts.
  • Building and strengthening internal networks as well as developing the organization's processes, policies, and projects.
  • Leading and developing the department long-term together with the Head of Legal & Contracts, including competence development, support systems, and working methods.
  • Ensuring a sustainable work environment where employees thrive, develop, and want to stay.
  • Prioritizing presence – being an accessible and supportive manager in daily operations.

You will be part of the department's management team.

The position may require approximately 5-7 trips per year, both within and outside Sweden.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree in a relevant field, such as economics, law, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Several years of experience in contract work, business setups, or commercial roles within complex operations.
  • An interest in technology and technology-heavy products.
  • The ability to see the big picture, analyze business models, and contribute to how business is structured for quotes and negotiations.
  • Leadership experience, formally or informally. Previous personnel responsibility is highly meritorious but not a requirement.
  • Good ability to understand new areas and comprehend employees' work and challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • A calm and secure leadership style, where you are close to the operations, build trust, and provide support in both everyday and complex situations.

Desirable:

  • Experience from manufacturing industry or technically complex operations.
