Systems Engineers for Marine Platforms

Are you driven by seeing your ideas come to life? Welcome to our exciting and technology-intensive world.

The HVAC & Auxiliary Systems section is responsible for heating, ventilation, firefighting, and all waterborne systems onboard. You will be part of a team with deep expertise, great commitment, and a desire to move forward. We offer an exciting and varied job with marine platforms such as surface combatants, mine countermeasures, and world-class support and logistics vessels. We also place great importance on maintaining a good balance between work and leisure.

Your Role

In your role as a systems engineer, you will be involved in the entire lifecycle of systems, from requirements analysis, product development to detailed design, commissioning, and verification. You will create the system architecture based on customer requirements and functional analyses. You refine and follow your systems through the system development process until functionality is verified onboard. Of course, your system must be able to interact with other systems, which requires close collaboration with other departments. Thereafter, there will be ongoing maintenance and upgrades throughout the vessel's lifetime. The work is complex, cross-disciplinary, very varied, and requires both a holistic view and an eye for detail.

You can be a recent graduate or an experienced engineer in this role - your personal qualities weigh heavily. We are looking for the puzzle piece that makes us stronger and count on you wanting to develop into a superstar within auxiliary systems - through good teamwork, various projects, and world-class products.

Main Responsibilities

  • Driving the development and ensuring functionality for one or more systems for surface vessels
  • Requirements analysis, system definition, reports, and calculations
  • Managing the project's internal and external stakeholders
  • Supplier management and deep involvement in the procurement process
  • Conducting system tests and verification onboard marine surface vessels

The role also involves, to a lesser extent, business trips related to delivery tests, trial trips, and verification work.

Your Profile

We are looking for an engaged, curious person with openness to broad system applications of mechanics and thermodynamics. You enjoy working in teams and look forward to being the go-to person for questions about your systems and area of expertise.

To succeed in the role, you need to be a meticulous yet creative problem solver who can balance complex technical solutions as well as simple, manual, and reliable ones. This means you are good at solving problems with straightforward methods.

The role also involves moderating and considering feedback from internal and external stakeholders, as well as being able to collaborate well with your colleagues and having good communication skills. The role suits you if you constantly want to develop and have strong and humble self-leadership. You don’t need to know everything; further development is provided within the framework of your work.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, energy systems, or process engineering, or equivalent knowledge assessed as comparable
  • Professional level in Swedish and English, both spoken and written

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Background in the Armed Forces, FMV, or other Saab companies
  • Marine engineering degree
  • Experience in system design and system development
  • Knowledge of CBRN protection, cooling water systems, firefighting, or ventilation systems
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations for ship classification, e.g., DNV/SOLAS/MARPOL
  • Procurement processes and managing interfaces in complex projects
  • Commissioning of systems, tests, and verifications
  • Leadership roles professionally or in leisure
  • CAD 3D modeling [Aveva Marine, Engineering, and E3D]
  • Driver's license class B
  • Boat certificate, skipper B, or other nautical competence

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may entail requirements for certain citizenship.
