We are now looking to strengthen the development team focusing on the business area of Debt Collection – an area where the demand for secure, business-critical, and modern applications is very high. Would you like to help develop and maintain some of Svea's most important and central systems? Are you a problem solver with an interest in underlying technology and a desire to understand how business and regulatory requirements affect what you build? Then this could be the role for you.

About the role As a software developer with us, you will be part of a cross-functional team working with both COBOL and .NET. The team is characterized by an open climate where questions are welcomed, ideas are tested, and where everyone collaborates to find the best solutions. We work closely with the core business and deliver continuously, giving you a clear connection between what you build and how it is used – both internally and by our corporate clients.

You will work broadly and holistically in Svea's proprietary debt collection system. Here, you will follow the development from start to finish: from ordering, analysis, and design to development, testing, and launch. Our environment combines stable COBOL-based core systems with more modern solutions in C#, Oracle, and Apex, providing you with excellent opportunities to develop, deepen your technical skills, and broaden your expertise over time.

The work is done in close collaboration with product owners, the business, and other development teams, and together you are responsible for creating stable, user-friendly, and sustainable systems. The role involves both maintenance and new development, and you will work with complex issues where independence, analytical skills, and engagement are important aspects.

Key responsibilities: • Development and maintenance of business-critical debt collection systems • Backend logic for case management, payments, process flows, and reporting • Integrations with internal and external systems • Database development in Oracle (SQL and PL/SQL) • API flows and data formats in XML and JSON • Continuous deliveries in close collaboration with the business • Work on everything from design to coding • Opportunity to work with Oracle Apex and tools like Toad

Technical environment The system is proprietary and runs on Linux with Oracle databases. Development is done in Micro Focus Visual COBOL with Microsoft Visual Studio as the IDE. We use Git for version control. You will have the opportunity to work with COBOL, C#, Oracle DB, Oracle Apex, PL/SQL, SQL, XML, JSON, and related tools.

Who are you? We are looking for someone who is meticulous, communicative, and enjoys analyzing and solving complex problems. You take initiative, drive work forward, and are happy to share your knowledge.

You thrive in an environment where you not only write code but also understand why you do it – how the system is used, how it creates value for the business, and how regulations, laws, and debt collection processes affect development. You are curious, responsible, and see the big picture.

Of course, support is available from your team, which values collaboration, openness, and a lack of hierarchy, and is happy to help brainstorm ideas, solutions, and challenges.

Experience and qualifications

  • 2–3 years of experience in COBOL development
  • Experience working in larger systems or business-critical applications
  • Understanding of agile methods such as Scrum
  • Preferred: experience in debt collection, payments, finance, or similar industries
  • Preferred: knowledge of C# and/or .NET
  • Fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written
