We are looking for a laboratory engineer for work in substrate production, such as the production of microbiological growth media, chemical solutions, and reagents. The products are sold both internally to the diagnostic departments and externally to customers such as the pharmaceutical industry. As an employee at SVA, you contribute to a sustainable society and can be a positive force for animal health and welfare.
About the workplace, SVA
The Swedish Veterinary Institute, SVA, is an expert authority located in the Ultuna area of Uppsala. SVA is a risk-assessing preparedness authority tasked with investigating the emergence, causes, and spread of infectious animal diseases and participating in their prevention and control. The authority also conducts research. SVA is part of the civil defense and maintains critical societal functions through high veterinary medical competence, monitoring, and accredited laboratories.
Job Responsibilities
We offer you a varied job where you, together with the team, produce biological and chemical products for diagnostics and research. The production includes, among other things, the manufacture of agar plates/tubes for general assessment and selective media for specific agent analyses, growth media, reagents, antibiotics, and chemical solutions. In addition to production, you will actively participate in the quality work of the organization and the development of products, as well as, when necessary, the development of new solutions. Your role also includes work with digitalization, efficiency, and improvement work. Cross-sectional work exchange may occur within the position.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is driven, interested, and self-sufficient, takes initiative, and is responsible for your own and the group's assignments with the customer and deadlines in focus. You hold a university degree as a biomedical analyst or equivalent competence, which the employer assesses as equivalent, in a relevant scientific field. You preferably have work experience in one or more of the subject areas of microbiology, bacteriology, or chemistry, where QA/QC and/or GLP/GMP-like work is implemented. We want you to be quality-conscious, used to collaborating with others, and enjoy working both independently and in a team. We place high demands on the ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish, as this is a very essential part of being able to perform all the various tasks.
In the selection process, great importance will be placed on personal qualities, such as your ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and tasks as the organization is often event-driven. The work requires both practical skills and the ability to apply theoretical and academic competence.
Desirable
Experience in working and/or problem-solving with microbiological media and/or chemical solutions. Previous work in government operations is an advantage.
Conditions
Permanent employment at 100% full-time from 2026-02-01 or as agreed. The position starts with a six-month probationary period.
We want the CV and cover letter to be written in Swedish.
Other - good to know
