Postdoctoral Researcher in Preparative Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment.

The department has approximately 85 employees, and here, PhD students, teachers, researchers, and administrators work closely together in a creative and open environment. More information about the department can be found at http://www.ilk.uu.se (http://www.ilk.uu.se).

The research group Preparative Medicinal Chemistry (https://www.uu.se/institution/lakemedelskemi/forskning/vara-forskningsomraden/preparativ-lakemedelskemis) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a scientifically leading environment with researchers from diverse and international backgrounds.

You will work in the research group of Preparative Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University. The group's research primarily focuses on the design and synthesis of molecules in early drug discovery and the development of new methods for organic synthesis. The research group is part of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and consists of approximately fifteen senior researchers and PhD students, many with international backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities

You will support the group’s research projects in medicinal and organic chemistry, focusing on developing chemical tools for molecular imaging using positron emission tomography (PET) and mass spectrometry. In your role as a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on research aimed at method development as well as the design and synthesis of organic chemical compounds in close collaboration with expertise in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, and molecular imaging. The position includes documentation of laboratory work, planning and evaluation of data, and being partially responsible for manuscript preparation. You are also expected to compile and present at group meetings and seminars.

Your responsibilities may also include supervising thesis students, teaching, or equivalent. Additionally, you will participate to some extent in shared duties within the department, such as service and maintenance of equipment and instruments.

Qualifications

A PhD in Medicinal Chemistry or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry. The degree must have been obtained no later than at the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years will be considered. When calculating the three-year time frame, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or trust assignments within trade union organizations, etc.

High competence in organic synthesis and organic chemical structural analysis is required. The applicant is expected to work under the supervision of senior researchers in the group, and good organizational skills and flexibility are required as the applicant will support complex research projects. Good communication and collaboration skills are required as the tasks involve interaction with staff from a broad international background. Good knowledge of English is a requirement. Particular emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Desirable/Meritorious

Research merits and teaching experience (lectures, seminars, and supervision of laboratory work) within the project area will be particularly considered. A strong motivation and ability to work effectively both individually and in a group is desirable. Experience in handling orders, inventory management, and lab management within medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry research is meritorious.

Application

In this recruitment, we have replaced the personal letter with questions that you will answer in connection with your application. The answers will be used as part of the selection process. The application should also include a CV, a summary of your previous research experiences (1-2 pages), as well as any educational diplomas and certificates. Please attach recommendation letters or contact information (name, email, phone number) for previous employers or colleagues.

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria: fulfillment of eligibility requirements, previous experience, and personal suitability.
