Postdoctoral position in control engineering at ISY focusing on high-performance numerical methods for MPC under uncertainty - Linköping University

Your responsibilities

The Department of Control Engineering at the Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in optimal motion planning and model predictive control (MPC) under uncertainty for autonomous systems. The research aims to develop advanced numerical methods to solve challenging belief-space problems in optimal motion planning and their receding-horizon counterparts in the form of stochastic and belief-space MPC for motion planning. A central focus is how the use of sensors and state estimation can be actively planned to enable overall optimal movements. The problem will be tackled by integrating AI-based methods with techniques from optimal control and MPC. Additionally, the group's expertise in structure-utilizing optimization algorithms will be used to enhance the performance of the numerical methods even for this type of problem.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of the working time.

Your qualifications

To be eligible for the postdoctoral position, you must have a PhD or an equivalent foreign degree that is assessed to correspond to a PhD. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, candidates who obtained their PhD earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

The applicant should have a strong background in control engineering, optimal control, statistics, and optimization. Good programming skills are required, including experience with Python and C++. Knowledge of motion planning under uncertainty is advantageous. The applicant should have good collaboration skills, be able to communicate research effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to work independently.

Your workplace

The Department of Control Engineering successfully conducts research, doctoral education, and undergraduate education in areas such as autonomous systems, data-driven modeling, complex networks, learning control, optimization, and sensor fusion. The department has extensive collaborations with both industry and other research groups around the world.
