Economist for the Education Administration

The Education Administration encompasses the activities of preschool, primary school, secondary school, adult education, labor market, and integration.

The administration is governed by two committees, the preschool and primary school committee and the secondary and adult education committee. The Education Administration is led by the Director of Education and has a total of approximately 5,500 employees.

About 70 people work at the Education Administration's office in management, finance, HR, legal affairs, development, communication, local planning, and administration.

Within the Education Administration's finance unit, there are currently 11 employees. Our task is to collaboratively create conditions for good financial management and support our managers and politicians with solid decision-making data in the financial area. Our task is also to lead, coordinate, and develop financial processes.

Your Responsibilities

As an economist in a team, you will work with follow-up, budgeting, year-end closing, as well as forecasting and analysis tasks. You will largely work in Excel with various calculations and resource allocation models. In your role, you will present financial data and support principals, leaders, and managers in financial matters. You will be an important support to both the Chief Financial Officer and the operational managers in these areas. Through your work, you will be close to the operations and become part of developing the schools in Umeå. The work is flexible, and you will have great opportunities to plan your work independently.

About You

We are looking for someone with a degree in business administration or equivalent, and preferably a few years of experience working as an economist or controller. You have excellent skills in Excel and good knowledge of other applications in the Office suite. We would like you to have experience with financial or follow-up systems – for example, Hypergene, Visma, or similar.

Your personal qualities are important, and we want you to be communicative, meticulous, and structured, with good analytical and pedagogical abilities. It is important that you can explain financial concepts in a pedagogical way to those who are not economists. In dialogue with various stakeholders, you are attentive and unpretentious. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively. You like to learn new things and are driven by continuous improvement. Other qualities that characterize you are positivity and initiative.
