At the Swedish Work Environment Authority, we work together to ensure that no one becomes ill, injured, or dies due to work. Therefore, we assist employers in meeting the existing requirements and inform how work environment efforts can become a natural part of everyday life. Based on the Work Environment Act, we develop regulations, inspect workplaces, and disseminate knowledge about work environment issues. The mission is serious, but our everyday life is characterized by joy at work, and we are caring and helpful colleagues.

Your New Job

The IT unit at the Swedish Work Environment Authority is in a growth phase and consists of four sections, and now it is time to recruit a Data Engineer for the development section. The section currently consists of 11 employees distributed across two development teams.

The goal of the IT unit is to develop a future-proof system support that meets the authority's growing needs for digitalization, access to data, decision support, and advanced analyses such as AI. At the same time, we need to focus on managing technical debt by making systems easy to maintain and further develop in the long term. Our goal is to build an organization that can grow with more development teams and strengthen our competence in development and modernization.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority aims to become more data-driven and make decisions and develop our working methods based on data and analysis. For us as an IT unit to support the operations in this journey, we need to develop and modernize our data and analysis platform. Our existing architecture is based on SQL Server, SSIS, and SSRS and is entirely on-premise. We now want to open up to cloud solutions and move towards a hybrid architecture such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory/Fabrics.

As a Data Engineer, you play a central role in driving this development from architecture, design, development, and implementation. By working closely with management, projects, and stakeholders, you have the ability to understand the technical needs and challenges that exist for the authority to become more data-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build various storage solutions such as data warehouses, data lakes, and data marts.
  • Develop and optimize ETL processes for data management.
  • Ensure scalable and efficient solutions for data flows and processing.
  • Work with modern technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Be responsible for developing the technical platform around data management.
  • Collaborate closely with information architects, data analysts, BI and system developers, and other stakeholders to provide the right data at the right time.
  • Identify and implement improvements to optimize performance and quality in data management.

Your Background

The role requires that you have:

  • Post-secondary education in systems, information, or computer science, or equivalent knowledge acquired through work experience that we assess as equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of current experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Experience designing and implementing data warehouses and data flows.
  • At least 3 years of current programming experience, with a particular emphasis on Python and .NET.
  • Experience with databases and SQL.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Azure Data Factory/Fabrics.
  • Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Swedish citizenship.

It is advantageous if you also have:

  • Knowledge of container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in agile teams with DevOps methods (CI/CD).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience in solution architecture for data platforms.
  • Experience in machine learning.

To succeed in the role, you need to be able to drive change and feel comfortable with problem-solving. We see that you are results-oriented and enjoy collaborating and are service-oriented. You are accustomed to influencing and inspiring in the workplace. In the selection process, we place great emphasis on your personal suitability and your ability to create good collaborations.

Employment with us may mean that the position is placed in a security class. Security clearance with or without a background check may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our tasks in the security class, Swedish citizenship is required. Security clearance is conducted according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
