University Lecturer in Social Work

The School of Health and Welfare is part of Jönköping University and offers academic education in health, care, and social work. The School has extensive collaboration with the surrounding community both regionally and nationally, as well as internationally. About Us

The Department of Social Work at the School of Health and Welfare comprises over 30 employees.

Our primary educational mission is to provide a social work program with admissions twice a year. Including all semesters, this means approximately 300 students in training. In addition to the social work program, the department also offers courses in psychology, leadership and organization, collaboration, as well as an international master's program in Interventions in Childhood. Besides these courses, various commissioned education programs are offered, primarily in social work but also in psychology and law. Within the department, research in social work is conducted as part of the interdisciplinary research environment at the School of Health and Welfare, Studies on Integrated Health and Welfare (SIHW).

As a university lecturer with us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a learning environment that supports students' responsibility for their learning and promotes active knowledge-seeking with a scientific approach as a natural part of the learning processes, in a creative and stimulating environment in close collaboration with colleagues.

The position involves research opportunities, but the main focus is on teaching and examination at the undergraduate and advanced levels, primarily within the social work program. You will also be involved in developing the program's teaching related to sustainability and social work. The work includes:

• Educational administration such as course responsibility.
• Pedagogical development related to teaching.
• Program and course development within the framework of social work.
• Teaching in commissioned education programs.
• Participation in the university's and department's international work to strengthen and develop educational and research collaboration.
• Active participation in the department's various activities.

Who Are We Looking For?

To succeed in the role of university lecturer, you need to be able to plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively and appropriately. We value a good working environment and sustainable working methods, but you must be able to handle a sometimes high workload and thrive in a flexible working style. You also have a good ability to collaborate with the outside world. To manage the work, you have strong leadership skills and good collaboration skills as you will meet many different people in your role as a university lecturer. In addition, you have:

• A doctoral degree in social work or another relevant field.
• Documented scientific competence.
• Documented pedagogical competence.
• Completed training in higher education pedagogy or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way and commit to undergoing higher education pedagogical training during the first two years of employment.
• Potential to develop and lead educational and research activities.
• Documented experience in conducting research in the field.

We also expect you to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

It is advantageous if you have good knowledge in any of these areas: disabilities, elderly care, or welfare and labor market. We also consider it an advantage if you have documented experience of practical social work and have participated in national and international research networks.

About the Employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment. A probationary period may apply. The start date is 2025-06-01 or by agreement.
