Leisure Leaders for Holma Youth Center
Are you passionate about working with children and youth? Do you want to engage young people on their own terms and build long-term relationships that make a difference? The leisure center is more than just a place for activities – it is a place where young people receive support, are seen, and are heard. We are now looking for two dedicated leisure leaders for Holma Youth Center.
Holma Youth Center is an established meeting place in the heart of Holma, an area that is growing and changing, and where the youth center is evolving as well. Currently, the operation is in a development phase, where we are focusing on being more mobile in the local area. The youth center works with students in elementary school, middle school, and high school, and will in the future have a greater focus on reaching youth in middle and high school, with the goal of involving young people as much as possible in both idea work and implementation. You will be part of a team of 9 leisure leaders.
Job Responsibilities
As a leisure leader, you create safe, inclusive, and inspiring meeting places where children and youth can develop, feel a sense of community, and influence their leisure time. With a coaching approach, you support and inspire young people to be creative, take initiative, and grow, while also being a professional role model and a reliable boundary setter.
You meet the needs of young people – both those they express themselves and those you identify as a leisure leader – and adapt the activities to enable both planned and spontaneous activities where young people's participation and influence are in focus. The work is carried out in close collaboration with schools, guardians, the police, social services, and other local actors. You also collaborate with other youth centers and meeting places around events and holiday activities, where together you create safe and positive environments for children and youth.
Your base is at the youth center, with activities extending into the local area to meet and build relationships with young people where they are. You participate in all tasks at the workplace, including planning, implementation, and follow-up. Some ongoing administration and documentation are involved.
With us, you will have a large scope of action and mandate to develop a growing operation that inspires hope for the future – a place where all young people should feel welcome and part of a community.
As a leisure leader, you work with children and youth during their leisure time. This means your schedule includes regular day, evening, and weekend shifts.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a leisure leader degree from a folk high school or another relevant post-secondary education combined with experience working with our target group (youth aged 10–18 years)
- Other relevant post-secondary education may include pedagogy, social work, or social sciences, such as leisure pedagogue, social worker, social pedagogue, teacher, criminology, sociology, gender studies, sports science, international relations, or human rights
- Experience working in leisure center operations
- Has good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written
Meritorious:
- Experience in area-based work
- Has documented knowledge of norm criticism, gender equality, and youth participation
- Has experience with low-affect work
- Has been engaged voluntarily in some activity or association
Personal Competencies:
As a person, you are social, secure, stable, and responsible with a good ability to collaborate and build relationships. You are flexible and can easily adapt to changes while maintaining focus and calm even in challenging situations. You are creative and innovative, see opportunities, and contribute ideas that develop the operation.
You have a high degree of personal maturity, are attentive, and show respect in your interactions with both youth and colleagues. With your ability to build relationships and find solutions, you contribute to a positive and safe environment. You work independently with a holistic view and understanding of the operation's goals, while also enjoying working in a team.
Do you recognize yourself? Then you might be the one we are looking for!
As a leisure leader at Holma Youth Center, you will have Patricia as your manager, who leads with curiosity and engagement. She believes in the power of allowing employees to grow, take their own initiatives, and be involved in solutions. She does not have all the answers but believes that as a team, they find them together.
