School Counselor at Bellevue Gymnasium

Responsibilities

As a school counselor, you will assist the school with psychosocial expertise at all organizational levels and contribute to school development. Your role includes working towards a well-functioning student health service that supports students' development towards educational goals.

The main responsibilities include:

• Conducting individual counseling sessions based on school-related issues
• Conducting occasional assessments and referrals to other agencies
• Conducting group counseling sessions with students
• Collaborating with students' guardians, school staff, and external authorities and organizations
• Guiding and informing school staff on psychosocial issues
• Participating in the school's student health team and contributing psychosocial expertise
• Participating in the school's systematic quality and development work
• Working on students' working environment, e.g., the school's core values
• Contributing knowledge to teaching, e.g., substance abuse prevention
• Assessing students for admission to adapted upper secondary school
• Managing study financial issues
• Supervising social work students
• Documenting in the counselor's records in Prorenata

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Degree in Social Work (210 credits)
• Several years of experience in social work focused on children and youth
• Good understanding of the school's goals and governing documents
• Strong digital competence
• Proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written.

Desirable:

• Training in motivational interviewing
• Experience as a school counselor
• Experience working with children and youth in social services
• Experience in upper secondary school introductory programs or special education groups in primary school (grades 7-9)
• Good experience collaborating with other authorities and being part of various networks.

The role of a school counselor requires you to be confident in your professional role and have the ability to handle complex issues at both the individual and system levels. You analyze problems, find solutions, and drive your work independently and in a structured manner. You adapt easily to changing conditions, absorb new information, and see opportunities in new situations. Additionally, you communicate clearly, listen actively, and build trust in meetings with students, guardians, and colleagues. You collaborate well with other professionals and work relationally, with respect and attentiveness. Furthermore, you value diversity and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others.
