The Surgical and Gastroenterology Unit (VO) at Skåne University Hospital (Sus) is one of Sweden's largest surgical units for the care of patients with surgical and gastroenterological diseases. VO provides surgical inpatient and outpatient care in Lund, Malmö, and Landskrona.

In Lund, the operations include esophagus/stomach, endocrine/sarcoma, hepato-pancreatico-biliary, and emergency surgery. There is also a regional trauma center. In Malmö, the operations are similarly divided into pelvic floor, colorectal, breast/melanoma surgery, as well as emergency and laparoscopic/abdominal wall surgery. Trauma level 1 is managed in both Lund and Malmö. In Landskrona, large volumes of elective laparoscopic/abdominal wall surgery are performed.

Within VO Surgery and Gastroenterology, there is significant research activity with both clinical and experimental focus. Teaching for healthcare personnel, medical students, and AT/ST doctors is an important part of the work. Patient care is provided in a multidisciplinary manner with the ambition to offer care of the highest quality based on science and respect for patients.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now seeking a senior physician, assistant senior physician, or specialist physician in surgery to VO Surgery and Gastroenterology at Sus.

The work involves service within the surgical part of the area with a focus on emergency surgery and trauma surgery. On-call work is included in the position. The main placement for the position is in Lund. A probationary period of 6 months applies.

QUALIFICATIONS

For the specialist physician position, you must be a licensed physician authorized to practice within the Swedish healthcare system. You have specialist competence in surgery. Language skills in Swedish at least corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's scale are required. You should have completed or planned a course in clinical supervision.

For employment as an assistant senior physician, in addition to the above requirements for specialist physicians, you must also have full-time service of at least three years (documented effective time) and clinical skill and independence in surgery. A dissertation and/or specialist examination may be credited for a total of six months of clinical service. The following is also required:

• completed or planned clinical supervisor training
• documented teaching and supervision merits
• documented clinical experience with backup competence.

For employment as a senior physician, in addition to the above requirements for specialist physicians and assistant senior physicians, you must also have full-time service of at least five years (documented effective time) and a dissertation.

Several years of experience in emergency surgery or colorectal surgery is considered an advantage.

To succeed in the role, it is important that you have good clinical judgment, good communication skills, and that you can clearly and pedagogically convey knowledge and messages. As a person, you are flexible, engaged, and a natural partner in educational matters and in the team around the patient. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

At a university hospital unit, it is required that physicians have pedagogical experience and education. This can be acquired through supervision of, for example, nursing and medical students as well as physicians in training and as co- or main supervisors of doctoral students. Clearly describe in your application the pedagogical courses completed or planned, experience in supervision, and teaching at various levels.
