Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematical Statistics and Machine Learning
Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, was founded in 1957 in Copenhagen and moved to Stockholm in 2007, where it has KTH and Stockholm University as host universities.
Research at Nordita has a broad profile in modern theoretical physics, covering topics such as astrophysics, biophysics, gravitation, cosmology, and astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, condensed matter theory, as well as statistical physics and complex systems. Local research is complemented by scientific programs that bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics over an extended period. There are also good opportunities for collaboration with researchers at nearby universities.

Project Description
The candidate will work on tasks at the intersection of mathematical statistics, machine learning, and generative models, particularly for sequential data arising in complex dynamic systems. The candidate is expected to conduct research and publish their results at conferences and in scientific journals, as well as support the group's leadership and supervise students in the research project. The position aims to promote the career of an early-stage researcher who wishes to pursue an academic career. The tasks may change during the course of the employment or upon possible extension.
This position is part of the Wallenberg Initiative for Networks and Quantum Information (WINQ), supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW).
Responsibilities
The position involves conducting research and other work in accordance with the themes of the research group under the guidance of the principal investigator (PI).
Eligibility Requirements
A postdoctoral researcher is defined as an employee primarily hired for research who has obtained a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Assessment Criteria
The degree must have been obtained no later than when the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, union duties, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments in the subject area.
In the appointment process, particular emphasis will be placed on candidates with a strong research background in mathematical statistics and machine learning, especially in generative models and sequence modeling. Candidates who have demonstrated independent research and have published at conferences and in journals in machine learning (such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, JMLR, TMLR, etc.) will be prioritized.
About the Position
The position is full-time and is permanent, but lasts at least two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date is negotiable.
