Classroom Designer at Mid Sweden University

The Department of Research and Educational Support (FUS) at Mid Sweden University offers expertise in internationalization, pedagogical development, lifelong learning, research funding, and innovation. Here, there are about forty competent staff members with various experiences.

We are now looking for a Classroom Designer to work on the implementation of a new learning platform at Mid Sweden University.

Are you motivated to develop engaging and functional digital classrooms for the education of the future? We are now seeking a Classroom Designer who wants to support and work alongside our teachers to create high-quality and accessible classrooms, as well as resources in our learning platform.

The position is placed within the group for Pedagogical Development, which offers qualified support to researchers and teachers at Mid Sweden University regarding higher education pedagogy, technology-supported learning, and pedagogical learning environments.

Responsibilities

Mid Sweden University is transitioning from the Moodle learning platform to Canvas during the period of 2024-2026. The project is planned to provide teachers with clear and close support in the work of the transition and the development that occurs after the switch. This position is one of two types that initially strengthen the support available for technology-supported learning at the university. One of the project's goals is to create a more cohesive way of designing classrooms at the university, aimed at facilitating both teachers and students.

Your responsibilities include:

• Supporting teachers in planning and structuring their digital classrooms to ensure they are pedagogically sound and user-friendly.
• Creating and adapting resources such as instructional videos, guides, and interactive exercises in close collaboration with teachers.
• Developing and designing classrooms, where you practically build and adapt the content in the learning platform to meet teaching goals and student needs.
• Providing advice and technical support regarding design and functionality to support learning.
• Investigating alternative solutions to challenges faced by the university's teachers when working in the learning platform.
• Contributing to training for the university's teachers focused on digital learning environments and the learning platform.
• Supporting teachers in using other digital tools that complement the learning platform, such as Zoom, Kaltura, Padlet, Mentimeter, and administrative support systems.

Your Background

For this position, we are looking for someone who:

• Has current experience working with learning platforms and digital educational tools.
• Has documented experience in developing structure, design, and user experience in digital learning environments.
• Has recent experience supporting university teachers or other professionals in the use of digital tools and learning environments.
• Has experience working in a process- or project-oriented manner with documented good outcomes.
• Has a relevant academic degree.
• Has good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

It is particularly meritorious if you:

• Have worked with the Canvas learning platform.
• Have teaching experience in higher education.
• Have experience working with technology-supported learning and/or pedagogical support for teachers in higher education.

Your Qualities

You have good collaboration skills and a pedagogical understanding of learning and teaching, and you see your own work as part of a larger effort. This means you are responsive to the needs of teachers and operations.

You should also be able to work independently towards the project's set goals based on the needs of individual teachers, groups of teachers, and departments.

It is essential that you are responsible, proactive, and have a very good ability to meet deadlines.

To succeed in this role, you also need to be creative and solution-oriented with the ability to translate ideas into practical solutions.

Employment and Start Date

The position is a special fixed-term employment on a full-time basis from 2025-03-01 to 2026-02-15 or by agreement.
